Nokia 808 PureView beats Olympus PEN E-PL2

I expected the PureView to beat the Apple 4S and the Galaxy S III, but not necessarily an excellent Micro Four Thirds. It did anyway, by quite a margin.
This is one exceptional camera, and a great phone btw. Isn't it amazing how the pundits (dis)miss a great device, because they are so tied up in the "Nokia is toast" and "Symbian yada yada" thinking?

Ich finde das Nokia als Fotogerät durchaus interessant. So interessant, dass ich es mir gut als Teil meiner Radausrüstung vorstellen könnte. Allgemeine Bildqualität ist ja offenbar klar besser als beim iPhone; in den Schatten / bei schlechtem Licht ist der Vorteil noch größer. Mehr Spielraum fürs Herumschnippseln kann auch nicht schaden.
Jetzt müsste man / ich nur noch überprüfen, ob die übrigen Software-Anforderungen erfüllt werden. (Die sind schmal. Gute Kamera-App, Dropbox, Evernote, brauchbare Karten-App, offline-Navigation, Exchange-Client, ... Sync mit OSX Kalender/Kontakten; alternativ direkte Verbindung zur iCloud.)
Ja, das ist wirklich unglaublich. Ich habe den Blindtest angesehen und war wirklich überrascht, wie nahe die beiden offensichtlich besten Bilder zusammenlagen. Das Ergebnis ist natürlich noch schöner.
Überraschend auch, wie weit weg das SGS3 und das iPhone4S waren. Das Abschneiden des HTC OneX ist nicht überraschend. Wobei ich da ja die Features (Bild während Video zu.B.) echt klasse finde.
Andreas, die Kamera ist fraglos Weltklasse. Wenn Du kein Problem hast, ein-, zweimal pro Jahr ein neues Smartphone zu kaufen und Symbian ohnehin kennst - go for it. Ansonsten sei gewarnt. Symbian ist am Auslaufen und keinesfalls so rund wie z.B. iOS oder WP.
(Wahlweise) Offline Navigation, Kamera App und Exchange sind Out-of-the-box vorhanden und sehr gut.
Dropbox, Evernote sollte kein Problem sein. Für die Kontaktsynchronisation gab es mal iSync von Nokia, ich weiß aber nicht, ob das noch aktuell ist. iCloud Zugriff - hier wird es wohl dünn.
Falsch. Dropbox und Evernote unterstützen Symbian nicht.
Die Kamera-App im PureView ist super, ebenfalls die Maps und die Navigation, natürlich auch offline.
@Volker: Schau mal im Store nach "Cutebox", das ist Dropboxunterstuetzung vom feinsten. Laeuft zumindest auf meinem N8 unter Belle ohne Probleme.
Cutebox wird vom 808 nicht gefunden. Ich meinte aber auch "Dropbox, den Hersteller".

Genauso funktioniert. Man muss sich gar nicht mit der Kamera befassen, oder man kann dozieren, dass niemand so viele Pixel braucht.
So my question is why Nokia haven't yet put this camera technology in a WP7.5 phone? Surely that would be a great differentiator against the iOS and Android options?
Likewise, if having such a fantastic camera in a smartphone is possible, it's odd that none of the many Android OEMs has gone down that route?
Stuart, you are clearly not an engineer. The Android OEMs just put a camera module into their devices. PureView is a five year effort. And as such, you can't just do it on Windows Phone. It takes time. And it will be done.
Is it just me or my eyes? The quality of the photos taken with the Olympus E-PL 2 is much, much better. Sharper, less noise, more details.
Frank, you are not alone, the Olympus produces the best images by far in this comparison IMHO. Just because the majority votes for something doesn't mean it's the best choice for everyone ;) But the Nokia is really close and seems to be an amazing product for being this pocketable, impressive.
Frank and Patrick: count me in. I found the Olympus images to be the best (shadows, sharpness, details) of the pack. The article doesn't disclose the lens used with the Oly. (I'd certainly use one of the better primes.)
But: the Nokia is "close enough", if one takes account the compactness of this multi purpose package.

I know it says 70, but only because of the 808 photo.
The devil is in the details, and the 808 definitely show them more sharply than the others.

Aber alles auf vergleichsweise kleine 8 MB runtergerechnet, wenn ich das auf den schnellen ersten Blick richtig gesehen habe. Mal weitere Links verfolgen. Aber eine Kamera, äh, Smartphone ohne RAW ist eh keine Kamera... ;-)
