Plantronics introduces Voyager Legend

The Voyager Pro UC is still my favorite headset. But now there is a new player in town. The Voyager Legend is a bit smaller and it makes an important change: tactile switches. The volume slider and the on/off switch should be easier to operate when the device is behind the ear. And the call button is now on the back of the beam which is also safer. The regular model is available immediately, the UC (unified communication) model which connects to PC and phone at the same time is still three months out. It will come with desk charger and pouch with external battery. Similar to the Pro ($100) and Pro UC ($200), I expect the Legend UC to be twice as expensive as the Legend.

While I reserve judgment on how useful the Legend is compared to the Pro, I see one design change I do not like. The Legend has charging contacts that make it easier to connect to a desktop charger or the battery inside the pouch. But the contacts replace the MicroUSB port. That means you have to carry an extra cable if your want to charge on the go.

I have a Voyager, it's fantastic, and no doubt this is too. But agree about the Micro USB port... I almost always charge mine via USB from my laptop.

You do charge over USB. It's just that you need a little connector between a MicroUSB port and the Voyager. That's no longer inside the headset. A hard design decision, since you can't build a desktop stand or a nice charging case if you interface with a USB connector.

They could have just included both...
