The Re-Imagining of Microsoft
by Volker Weber
Bitching about the missing Start button in Windows 8? Watch this to understand what is going on at Microsoft.

45 Minuten sind zu lang für doofe Konsumenten, um zu erklären warum es keinen Startbutton mehr gibt.
Verlaufen. Hier geht's lang: http://www.heise.de/foren/
Haven't see the video yet. However I tried Windows 8 and it doesn't take 45 minutes to forget about the supposedly missing Start button.
I feel that the discussion on the Start button is blown way out of proportion and many sw developers will keep it in mind when thinking about trying something new. Really sad.
I am not whining about the missing Start button, I am willing to try and let my clients try something new, and I trust that a big team at MSFT is better suited to come up with new paradigms than me. What I am, however, bitching about is that MSFT is trying to force a new business model on me. I am not prepared to sell my LOB application through a store that keeps 30% of my revenues (without MSFT being involved in the sales process - contrary to consumer software) or let my clients buy specialized MSFT licenses that enable them to use my works, thereby at the same time driving clients' cost up by a two-digit percentage (or driving my revenues down accordingly).
In short: People should be more bitching about the trend towards closed platforms than about a missing button. If somebody cannot not help me to sell, there is no reason to give him a cut.
Even shorter: Can one imagine AutoCad or similar things being sold through an anonymous App Store under current terms & conditions?
The Re-Imagining of Norway... how do you like Norway? Ahh, it's my second visit and it's a beautiful town.
Seems like the video has gone MIA.
Um.
'Sorry, that video does not exist'.
I'm guessing thats not the summing-up of Microsoft you intended? But it still works. ;)
