Android 5.1: Unwrapping a new Lollipop update

by Volker Weber

I accepted the OTA update to 5.0.2 on my first gen Nexus 7 and regretted it very quickly. The device became very slow, occasionally pausing for minutes at a time while loading an app, and on more than one occasion appeared to stop completely. Only a hard reset got me back in business.

So I downloaded the official build of KitKat (4.4.4) for the N7 and replaced Lollipop using ADB. Back to normal. According to the interwebs, I was not alone in this experience.

I wonder if 5.1 fixes this issue...
