If this is even remotely true, I understand why IBM does not let me have early access to the beta.

You could have been NDA'd.

There is only so much you can build in three weeks.

Then remains the question: what have they done over the last year?
I am sure, that it is almost finished. They just have to write the code.

Maybe IBM Verse will be the next Lotus Workplace, NSFDB2, Lotus Symphony, K Station,QuickR, Composite Applications and what ever the other big announcements in the last decade were called.

IBM has always great ideas, but they often can not make a great working product without rough edges out of this ideas. And when the release an idea as a project they have soon the next great idea and leave the customer with a half backed product which is stabilized our even worse killed.

I don't think that is the case. It's still Notes. Just a new UI against the same mailbox. They don't like to say that, but that's all there is to it.

IBM Design is trying to clean this up. They are pushing hard. What are they pushing against? Some village idiot at a customer, tasked with IBM liaison, because that's the only task he is trusted with. And that HiPPO (Highest Paid Person's Opion) then forces features and design changes into the product, without he is afraid he cannot renew the service contract for 2 million seats. (/vent off)

Yes, thats pretty much what it is. When I asked about the calendar IBM said "Why do you need a calendar view you have the calendar at the bottom, I click the calendar and its iNotes.

As much I am very VERY excited about this new front end especially since I learned its an OSGI plugin running on a Domino server, and they are thinking about having the search server deployed to on prem customers as a VM Appliance.

Even the mobile app was incomplete missing things that I take as standard and required like marking days you have events.

I think it is not "still Notes".
Yes, you start in your Inbox on iNotes, but as said in the cite, it's just the landing page, all the rest is Connections, Embedded Experience, Sametime, Watson analytics, etc...
So, the only Domino related part may be your mail file, but all/most of the interesting things will happen outside of Domino.

My personal opinion is that IBM Verse is pretty amazing and the "next big thing", but one must be aware that it's a complex solution and only a fraction of the technology/products used in the background to build it is Domino based.
And in today's Webcast on SocialBizUG they promised once a again an on premise variant of IBM Verse.
I think many customers will use a hybrid solution, may be using a Domino based infrastructure on premise and the complex parts. like watson as part of the cloud offering.

Well, Volker, it's the 'Design Team'. Everybody on stage was telling us that truth.
