Some people are steering away from whazzup groups with high noise ( like 400 msg / weekend) as they find no added value to the time invested/consumed.
This is in line with my observations, most soc med channels have an abysmal signal / noise ratio. Looks like it was a good idea not to install them in the first place...
That's one reason I don't even have WhatsApp. Even though I get the point of having it.
I do have SMS, iMessage, skype, threema, E-Mail, Signal, ICQ ... ok. Nobody uses that anymore. ;)
You get the point. No need for another messenger. At least from my point of view.
I got caught up in the frenzy to install the latest and greatest messenger type app - only to find myself checking iMessage, WhatsApp, Messenger, Signal, Telegraph, Skype, Yammer and Google Hangouts. It was like some kind of strange circuit through many apps that I'd perform every 20 minutes or so. (For security no notifications)
In the end I removed all the messaging apps except iMessage and Signal. And Twitter and email (Spark) - which I don't really count.
I figure if someone wants to talk to me - they can just use iMessage or SMS. Or even.... phone me! Or is that FaceTime. Or Signal. AAARRRGGGHHH

I disagree on $, but only technically, not basically. High volume channels, I avoid or mute. Maybe it is an age thing, but people I am connected with via $ seem to be disciplined in general.
I respect, when people refuse e.g. WhatsApp. I would like those people to understand and respect as well, however, that their refusal can be an added burden on people's time, trying to organize informal events / coordinate groups.
I absolutely agree with the campaign on the 'do not let machines / algos notify you'. I never understood the benefit of that (like in 'benefit for *me*'). Might be an age and point in life thing as well (family, kids, work).

A few carefully-considered removals — or a general app re-organisation on one’s device — really pay dividends. I recommend checking the site out.
