Signal finally gets a desktop client which replaces the Chrome extension. Halleluja.

Only downside - they are not doing their server communication through HTTPS, but through some high TCP port.
Which means that it needlessly won't work through corporate proxies.

How is an Electron app (Chrome extension packaged with embedded Chrome runtime) better than an independent Chrome extension? It certainly is no better, and by some measures worse, for security and system stability.
