Does not help them if they don't support AirPlay and direct play from Apple Music.

"Does not help them if they don't support AirPlay and direct play from Apple Music."

This is exactly what will influence my buying decision this year to finally add to my playbar with a sub and some ones - or not, if they don't deliver on the software side...

Our Sonos investment has soured since we subscribed to Apple Music. Three Play Ones and a Connect gather dust as I eagerly look to what HomePod might bring.

Colin Williams, 2018-01-25

This obviously cuts both ways. HomePod appears to work with Apple Music only. If you are a Spotify user. you would always need to keep the iPhone in the loop when streaming.

Didn’t I read a couple of weeks ago that they are going to support AirPlay 2 on the sonos one? I have a PlayBase, Connect:Amp and play:1 and was a bit annoyed that they would not get AirPlay on any of them - I just assumed that it was a memory/CPU thing

Ursus Schneider, 2018-01-26

Yes, they might. But it isn't there. Playbase might be good enough as well as Play:5 2nd gen.

Volker Weber, 2018-01-26

How can Sonos support Air Play 2 in their products, when even Apple can't do that at the release of homepod?

Karl Heindel, 2018-01-26

@Karl: are *going* to -> sometime in 2018 AFAIK

Ursus Schneider, 2018-01-26

Unfortunately, it is still unknown which devices are going to support AirPlay 2. The only (kind of) official statement is that Play One will be supporting AirPlay 2 - see Sonos community forums.

I'd bet that Playbase and Play:5 2nd Gen will do so as well.
It all depends on the resource requirements of AirPlay 2...
