Keep a short tail on social media

Since announcing her new job with The New York Times, a widespread campaign of harassment has targeted Verge reporter Sarah Jeong for a number of tweets she wrote years ago. Many of those now reacting to these tweets have intentionally taken them out of context, and she has since received an unrelenting stream of abuse from strangers on the internet.

When I see some of the picture memes with out of context quotes or simply made up "quotes" bring shared on Facebook and other social media I suspect the Twitter long tail is only a small part of the problem, especially if you're a public figure.

I've been meaning to get round to this for ages. Backup old tweets. Delete almost every tweet with (other services are available). Paid $0.99 to delete tweets between two dates. Worked well.
