Since announcing her new job with The New York Times, a widespread campaign of harassment has targeted Verge reporter Sarah Jeong for a number of tweets she wrote years ago. When I see some of the picture memes with out of context quotes or simply made up "quotes" bring shared on Facebook and other social media I suspect the Twitter long tail is only a small part of the problem, especially if you're a public figure.
I've been meaning to get round to this for ages. Backup old tweets. Delete almost every tweet with https://www.gocardigan.com/ (other services are available). Paid $0.99 to delete tweets between two dates. Worked well.
