Check your active Bluetooth codec on macOS

If you are playing music over your AirPods, your Mac uses AAC as the codec to transfer music over Bluetooth. I checked the same thing for my Plantronics 8200 and I was disappointed to see SBC, which is the (bad) fallback codec. Then I connected the headset to PLT hub and found there was an update which listed this fix:

Installed the update and there it was:
While the headset was still connected to my iPhone, the PC/Mac connection changed to aptX. I don't know why macOS prefers aptX over AAC, but it does. You can check this on a Mac by holding the option key while clicking the Bluetooth menu. There is no way to check it on Windows 10 or iPhone.
I have a lot of headsets, but I need to check out Beats Studio 3. They have the same wireless chip like the AirPods and should be connecting via AAC as well. BTW, I am hearing good things about them. Apparently they have dropped the Hiphop sound and are less bass heavy than early Beats.

IWenn die aktuellen macOS Versionen automatisch den aptX codec bei Anschluss eines entsprechenden Kopfhörers verbinden, dann wäre endlich ein lang bestehender Bug behoben.
In früheren Systemversionen musste man, um zum besseren aptX Codec zu gelangen, Bluetooth mitunter komplett ausschalten, wieder einschalten und dann als erstes Gerät den aptX-fähigen Kopfhörer verbinden, nur dann wurde der aptX Codec verbunden, ansonsten wurde immer mit SBC verbunden.
Macht mein Mac.

Ich nutze noch den BOSE QuietComfort 15 und überlegte bis eben die Anschaffung des QuietComfort 35. Der Beats Studio 3 wäre gut 100€ günstiger. Ich bin also sehr gespannt auf Deinen Bericht...
Haben die Studio3 Wireless tatsächlich nur USB-A auf USB Micro‑B und keinen Lightning-Anschluss?
Tobias, ich habe noch keinen Beats. Aber wenn es Dir auf die ANC ankommt, dann konkurriert nur der Sony WH-1000. Und der ist nicht wesentlich billiger.
