iPhone Xr looks like the real winner here

I still have to touch an iPhone Xr, but I am pretty sure it is the winner this year. Unlike the iPhone 5C, which was a cheaper option with last year's specs, it is the real deal. All new iPhones are share the same specs. They come in different sizes, the Xs models have a zoom lens, 3D touch and a more expensive display, but overall they are just the same.
You can buy more storage for the Xs models (64/256/512) vs the Xr (64/128/256) but I have had difficulties filling up the 256 of my X. What they all get is a faster chipset which speeds up the neural engine 9-fold. That means they can put more power behind the computational photography and perform depth mapping without a second lens. The Xr has to have slightly larger bezels, because it houses the LCD backlight you don't need on the AMOLED displays on the Xs.
Xr will have the longest battery life and that does make a difference. And of course, it is way cheaper. That is money you can put towards an Apple Watch with LTE.

I has similar thoughts and opted for the XS Max in the end.
I wanted the big screen. Also I played around with the „old“ X last week. Believe it or not, for the first time since it is out. ;) And i really enjoyed the OLED screen in contrast to my LED.
Might have been the wrong decision, but there is only one way to find out.
There is no wrong decision, as long as you get an iPhone. :-)
What do you think about the way lower resolution of the xr?
You do not only want the larger screen. You also want the AMOLED screen. And, for me as an enthusiatic photographer, the biggest restriction with the Xr: the second camera is missing. Not only for me a showstopper.
With 128GB (for me the minimum storage requirement) the Xr costs >900€ in Germany. Thats far from cheap and in compaprism to the 5c, it doubles the price tag.
In the past, it was much easier: buying newest phone >>> expensive but you got the up-to-date hardware. If you want to save money >>> buy last generation phone @ cheaper price. Which was, in most cases, good enough for the next 3 years.
Now you have 5 types of screen size (8, 8Plus, Xs, XsMax, Xr) and every phone has different specs. (camera, 3Dtouch, Fingerprint/FaceID). The agony of choice, and currently i really dont know which is "the" phone for me.
Karl, it's 326 ppi. The same resolution iPhone 6, 7 and 8 have. The Plus models always had to do some weird scaling to match dpi and ppi. I think it's actually a plus.
Roland, I think iPhone no longer needs a second lens, much like Google Pixel never did.
Volker, that's not the same resolution. A iPhone 8 Plus has 401ppi.

Doesn't this make a difference? You can't see a Full-HD Video without scaling on this 6.1" Screen. Or do I misunderstand here something?
Karl, look up the PPI for an iPhone 6, 7 or 8. Not for a 6 Plus, 7 Plus or 8 Plus. The Plus models have really weird scaling. See:

Oh, I got it, maybe. But that doesn't chage the fact, that you pay 900$ for a phone, with a relatively low resolution for that screen size.
Resolution is independent of screen size. And I cannot see pixels at 326 ppi.
On the Galaxy Note 9 you can set the screen resolution to 1480x720 and 2960x1440. The default is 2220x1080. If you find that important, it may be the phone for you.
Sorry, have to say that in german: Du meinst also, dass die niedrige Auflösung kein Kritikpunkt am iPhone XR ist? Wenn das Note 9 diese Auflösung hätte, würde man Samsung durchs Dorf jagen.
Ich bin kein Measurebator. Mir ist es wurscht, ob ein Auto 200 oder 600 PS hat.
Der Android-Markt interessiert sich für Auflösungen, RAM, Quadcore-Prozessoren etc. Dem iPhone-Nutzer reicht die Erkenntnis, das schnellste Smartphone weit und breit zu haben.
Wie ich schon sagte, meinen Augen ist es wurscht, ob die Auflösung 326 ppi oder mehr hat. Das Mehr bringt mir nichts. Das geht mir übrigens bei den Kameras genauso. 12 MPixel oder 48 MPixel? Ich mache damit die gleichen Fotos.
Meinen Ohren geht es übrigens genauso. Ich kann 256 kbps AAC nicht von 16bit/44.1kHz, 24bit/96kHz oder gar 24bit/192kHz unterscheiden. Mein Hund könnte das, aber dem ist es egal.
Nun ja, wenn die technischen Daten keine große Rolle spielen, dann kann ich nur empfehlen, gar kein neues IPhone zu kaufen :-)
Ich bin schon bei Karl. Neben der "noch nicht mal Full HD" Auflösung kommt auch die Tatsache dass ein Xr einen schmaleren Schirm als ein (z.B. 8) Plus hat. Das Gerät ist erstmal nur länger und der Bezel macht auch viel der Länge zunichte. Am Bildschirm gewinne ich also so oder so nicht wirklich. Als Viel Leser schon ein Punkt. Gegenüber dem IPhone(8)+ verliere ich die (wie ich finde sehr sinnvolle) Portrait Kamera, den 3D Touch und den Home Button den ich nach wie vor besser finde als ohne. FaceID ist vom Nutzen her (Z.B. im Auto) limitiert. Was gewinne ich eigentlich? Allein die Gesamtgröße des Geräts, denn für schnelleren Prozessor, RAM etc. interessiere ich mich ja nicht :-)
Das alte X hingegen hat zumindest eine höhere Auflösung, die Doppelkamera, AMOLED und 3dtouch. Und kostet derzeit mit 256GB genauso viel wie das neue Xr. Das IPhone 8Plus ist klobiger, klar, aber auch nochmal günstiger als das Xr, wenn auch vielleicht nicht so hip.
Man merkt schnell: Apple ist hier sein eigener, größter Konkurrent.
Ach ja, ich beschäftige mich mit der Frage schon allein deswegen weil bei mir das Produkt Update sehr bald ansteht:-)
Das X empfinde ich als einen schlauen Kauf. Solange es die noch gibt. Aber ich rechne damit, dass das Xr bessere Fotos schießt. Auch wenn es nur ein Auge hat
Ich empfehle ebenfalls das X. Perfekte Größe, phantastisches Telefon. Nicht zuletzt hat es den besten Namen ... :)
