AndroidOne software updates disappoint
by Volker Weber
I find it quite disappointing when new Android phones come out with AndroidOne and are so far behind the curve on software updates. This is a Motorola One that launched with 8.1 and it it is still on the August patch level, towards the end of October. No September patch, no October patch. Disappointing.
I sideloaded Android 9 Pie on the Nokia 7 Plus, because I got tired of waiting. That's a huge win over 8.1, but there still is no October patch. If by Xmas those phones are not on Pie December patch, something is very wrong.

I was literally refreshing the page, and thinking about whining again about my N8 still being on 8.0.1/oct. 2018 et voila You beat me to a punch.
One thing is for sure, when the time comes, I will not consider Android phones for my kids but iOS phones (Xr, to be precise)
In search of a new phone bought a Nokia 7 plus after reading about here. Received Pie OTA yesterday. Patch level still September. But thanks for the recommendation. I really like it and got used to size and weight quite fast. The old Nexus 5 X feels tiny and so so light now.
Congrats. Fantastic phone, my favorite non-iPhone. And Pie makes it a lot better.
The bigger disappoint is Android 9 Pie. I upgraded my Pixel 2XL and it behaves more like an iPhone now. I left those for a reason. I went out and bought a Moto X4 so I could have Oreo back with it's incredibly useful do not disturb settings that they nuetered in Pie. Absolutely worthless in Pie, just like iPhone DND.
Last Friday my Moto G6 received the September update for Android 8.
Both of those phones, the Pixel 2 XL and the Moto G6 are not AndroidOne.
Daniel what is wrong with Do Not Disturb in Pie. It never disturbs me.
I bought my 7 Plus cause if your recommendation, too. Came from a Samsung S7.
I hate it, that they changed so much in Pie. The date is not anymore in the notification bar, the double tap to wake up is not working, and the active Display when you pick the phone up is gone.
But beyond that, it's a good phone.
But I miss the brighter cam from the S7.
To be honest, I don't think Samsung-Android and Google-Android is comparable in general. The entire menu navigation, all settings and the pre-installed apps differ so much that it's hard for me to speak of the same operating system.
I - as a Nexus 5X user - always struggle, if I have to use a Samsung-Android device.
Not sure about your issues, Wolfram.
The date is at the top of a standard Pie homescreen. Double tap works for me as well. I get ambient notifications without picking up the phone and if Ido pick it up, I always put my finger on the reader at the back, at which points it lights up and unlocks.
I find Pie to be a really, really good upgrade.
My Moto Z2 Play received the Oct patch today (having skipped the Sep patch). Just in case anyone cares.
Es bleibt leider die Uhr.
Dann sehe ich Sachen, die Du nicht siehst. Neben der Uhr ist bei mir das Datum.
For people who have the same issue like me (no date in the notification center): https://community.phones.nokia.com/support/discussions/topics/7000036894
I hope, they fix that quick. The dark mode don't match my beautiful Homescreen-Background.
Excellent find. I am happy we exchanged screenshots and I was confident you would find the difference in setup. I couldn't make heads or tails of it.
