Now is a good time to buy a new iMac
by Volker Weber
Apple has announced new iMacs today, with upgraded CPUs and graphics card. This has been a long time coming. Right after new machines come out is usually the best time to get one.
What I find disappointing is that Apple still uses spinning hard disks instead of SSDs in their standard configuration.
iMacs today, iPads yesterday. Apple is clearing the pipeline to not dilute the message they want to convey next week. Remember, Apple never announces a mixed bag of news on the same day.

I am disappointed, still the old design and the old display-size 21,5" and 27". With a new design (smaller edges) and 24" as small and 32" as bigger display there would be not much difference in overall size ...
How would smaller bezels improve the machine?
as with the new ipads smaller bezels would raise the screen size with the same overall size. In my eyes 27" is too less now and the design is really old now too.
Actually, smaller bezels make the device smaller, not the screen larger. And why is the screen too small now?
As an IT administrator I have many windows open all the time. In work i have 3 x 27" monitors and at home I have a 34" and a 27" monitor. The 34" monitor for that reason, if I have to do rdp to my work-pc I have a lot of space for my open programms. So for that reason size matters to me at least.
If you have to use two or more screens, I would not suggest an iMac. If it has to be a Mac, the Mac mini is a much better choice.
@Reinhard: Screen size != resolution
Volker, would you still go with the Fusion Drive or an SSD? I suppose switching to an SSD after purchase is not that trivial despite the many tutorials circulating, right? Apple's SSD pricing is just crazy...
Not trivial at all. It also voids your warranty. Always buy what you want. I am no longer in the market for iMacs, so I cannot really tell you what I would do. Generally speaking I cannot imagine going back to a spinning disk.
I have a big iMac toddy with twoo screens. If I were to buy a new one I would buy a Mac Mini and one of these very wide screens that are so popular today. This because I want to have 4-5 applications open simultaneously...
