I am very busy with serious work but I took a few hours out of my schedule to upgrade from iPhone Xs Max to iPhone 11 Pro and from Watch Series 4 to Series 5. There is soooo much to talk about, but for now let me just say that the camera on the 11 Pro is beyond amazing and the always-on-display on Series 5 changes the game once more.

I also used a new migration process on iPhone without iTunes and iCloud backup. Peer-to-peer Wifi from phone to phone. I am loving it. I did have to go through a bit of a process because 11 Pro was on iOS 13.0 and Xs Max already on 13.1 beta 4. Now they both are on 13.1.

And yes, smaller iPhone once again. Now I can go commando again (without a case on iPhone). Series 4 and 5 are both Steel, but I switched from silver to black. And the 11 Pro is green, of course!

Awaiting my replacements which arrive in the morning. I’m interested in doing the new migration via WiFi. And glad for the always on display. It’s something I’ve definitely missed since the beginning.

I’m a bit surprised at the increased size of the new iPhone. I was expecting them to be the same size. So how is the size for one hand typing? Shirt pocket etc.

New phone (11 Pro) on the left. Old phone (Xs Max) on the right. I downsized. 11 Pro Max and Xs Max are the same size.

Please delete last comment. I have now just realised you’re going from big to small.

Too late. :-)

Annoying bug with the activity app; doesn't completely record my workouts so the green circle suffers:-).
Anyone reproducing this issue?

Tempted to get the watch 5. Question: does the always-on display also mean easier access to Siri? Or is it still necessary to move your wrist/raise to speak?

Out of curiosity, does the migration as well transfer the Apple Watch to the new phone or did you have to reinstall it? Will switch my phone later this day as well.

Dirk Bartkowiak, 2019-09-20

It will offer to pair the old watch to the new phone. Which transfers everything. You just need to authorize Apple Pay.

Volker Weber, 2019-09-20

Since you had both the new phone and watch, was there a particular order that you set up devices? Example: Added new watch to old iPhone first then transfer from old phone to new phone?

Leo Wiggins III, 2019-09-20

Both work. Moving phone first is more efficient if you want to use new watch instead of old (one time sync with restore from backup).

What was your special trick about the different firmware levels? What exactly did you do? I am in the same situation :-)
