I had this issue on one of the recent betas -- very poor battery life, dropping % in minutes rather than hours. The only solution was to restore the watch altogether from backup.

Now it's ok again - 100% last night at around 11pm, outdoor exercise monitoring for c. 90 mins, and 43% now at 5 pm UK (always on screen; hasn't been far from iPhone or WiFi though all day).

Mal sehen, ob das was bringt.

Benjamin Schinhammer, 2020-09-19

Uwe Papenfuss, 2020-09-19

Same here today. Watch 4, no Lyd.

Mariano Kamp, 2020-09-19

There is a rumour that the hand washing feature is to blame.
https://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-fix-watchos-7-battery-life-drain-on-your-apple-watch/
I disabled it now to check that out. We’ll see.

Mariano Kamp, 2020-09-20

No issues here (series5 gps+lte, just for the records).

Ingo Harpel, 2020-09-20

@Mariano: I don’t have the hand washing timer enabled. Lyd is gone, we shall see.

Jochen Schug, 2020-09-20

@Jochen. It doesn’t look like the hand washing is it from this end either. Turned it off, charged to 100% and less than an hour later of not even glancing at the watch it was down to 93%.

I now spent more than an hour to go down the re-pairing route. We’ll see.

The re-pairing process? Boy, what a train-wreck. I had dialogues that I could not leave without turning off the watch. And I got an error message that my backup could not be used which was clearly coming up from their implementation and was not meant for users. It worked eventually though.

It seems I need to re-learn from time to time not to use freshly released software.

Mariano Kamp, 2020-09-20

On my Watch S5 the battery got fully drained around 1600 the past days.

I am suspecting the Handwashing feature — but to be fair, I spent the last days mostly next to a river… I guess it is constantly/frequently monitoring for "running water sound". I noticed it was activated when the faucet started pouring water, but not when my hands moved in a "handwash motion".

I disabled that feature yesterday, charged the watch to 87 % in the morning and now 10 hours later it is still charged at 67 %…

Jean Pierre Wenzel, 2020-09-20

Hm. I also figured that "Unlock with Watch" for the MacBook does not work anymore since I reset the Watch yesterday.

Smooth, Apple. Smooth.

Jean Pierre Wenzel, 2020-09-20

I‘m pretty sure that the connection between the phone and the watch is to blame.

Before fixing the problem permanently by re-pairing the watch it could be fixed temporarily (for a few hours) by enabling and disabling flight mode on the iPhone.

So the problem could be found in iOS and not watchOS.

Marc Henkel, 2020-09-20

Indeed my phone is also acting up with error messages and not being able to launch camera or the Home Screen search bar/app launcher. A restart of the phone solved this for now.

I feel I am just an inch away from a blue screen.

Mariano Kamp, 2020-09-20

Jean Pierre, this process should fix the unlock:

Just another data point, though it will not help those with problems. Watch series 4 (with cellular) here. After the upgrade the battery lasts longer. I often have around 70% plus/minus 5% left after wearing the watch for 15-16 hours. No additional apps installed. Apart from messages (which I sometimes acknowledge with an emoji on the watch) I only allow notifications for 2 apps from the iPhone to be also pushed to the watch. I swim with the watch for an hour with workout activated and walk also with workout on for another 45-60 minutes.

I had battery problems last year after the upgrade. A re-pairing solved it then.

Federico Hernandez, 2020-09-20

I already re-paired the watch, which was a PITA. But removing all (3) apps is a great idea. They might be broken.

Volker Weber, 2020-09-20

Volker Weber, 2020-09-21

I've had issues with my iPhone 11 Pro Max and iWatch 4 . Both updated to the latest OS ( so OS14, Watch OS7).

The iPhone started battery draining, Health was using 59% of the battery and the iPhone was heating up.

I ended up disabling Sleep on the iWatch, and see there area a number of reports with the same issue on the Apple Communities.

I'm not sure if the issue is down to the iWatch 4, and Sleep or is there is an issue with Sleep in OS14 / OS7 .

Going back to Sleepwatch solved the issue (and provided me with a lot more data).

Sadly, I think the issue is with Sleep, there are numerous reports on the communities about this.

After removing Lyd didn’t change a lick, re-pairing seems to have done the trick.

I reset the watch last night, paired it again and restored the last backup. Re-adding all Apple Pay cards was a pain.

Interestingly, the watch didn’t immediately connect to my WiFi. After dis- and reconnecting WiFi on the iPhone, I was able to manually connect to the WiFi on the watch as well.

Everything seems to be hunky-dory again. After approx. 5 1/2 hours I’m down to 86%.

Jochen Schug, 2020-09-21

Still on Series 4 (my 6 won't arrive before mid October) and watchOS 7 ... so far no difference in Battery behavior to previous version.

Using sleep function and it takes something between 9%-18% per night depending on how long my sleep is.

Oh, and battery isn't the best anymore: says max. capacity is 88%
Still makes it through the day even with using workout app.

Oliver Busse, 2020-09-21

I have a ticket open with Apple on this. Disabling sleep / handwashing drops down the % battery used in Health but doesn't resolve the issue (by roughly 20% for me). I've also removed the Health Widget, and performed a full erase and restore. Ultimately even with Handwashing/Sleeping/Health Widgets disabled, Health is still showing as using 41% of my battery usage.
