iOS 12.5 - seven years of software support

by Volker Weber

iOS 12.5 lets you opt-in to the COVID-19 Exposure Notifications system for your iPhone. System availability depends on support from your local public health authority. This release also provides security updates and is recommended for all users.

Runs on anything from iPhone 5S, which was released in 2013. Your move, Google.

If they're not fast asleep, they will hopefully update that. Until a few days ago it didn't make any sense to support it.

Frank Quednau, 2020-12-17

They already announced that they will update that.

Based on Google's notice, it looks like Exposure Notifications for COVID-19 will be available to phones with Android 6 (Marshmallow) and above - so 2015 onwards (5 years back).

Right now, Marshmallow is ~95% of all active Android devices.
