Manage and autofill passwords with Microsoft Authenticator

Today we are announcing the general availability of password management and autofill capability in the Microsoft Authenticator app. Ever since we announced the public preview, we’ve seen a lot of interest among both enterprises and individual users. Users love the convenience of the Authenticator app syncing and autofilling their strong passwords for all their identities even as they move across devices - mobile or desktop. On desktops, you can autofill these passwords using either Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome extension.
The passwords are saved as part of your personal Microsoft account and they are encrypted both on the device as well as in the cloud. In addition, every password autofill from the Authenticator requires the same bio-gesture you provide for sign-ins, enforcing a multi-factor authentication.
I have been using this feature for a few weeks. It may be the end of password managers as a business.

Isn‘t it at least a little ambivalent to have both factors in the same app?
Don‘t get me wrong: i see the advantages of both passwordapps and authenticators and am using both.
You could use two apps if you want. But having Authenticator on all platforms taking care of passwords is a good thing.
One thing I liked about LastPass was the option to 'generate passwords' on the fly and store them straight away when setting up a new account. I can't see that working in the MS Authenticator (yet).
@Köbe - I kind of agree with your point. If I'm using the OTP capability of 1Password I really only need to know some things. That's not multi-factor authentication in the strict sense of the definition.
I'm all in on 1Password and I think the built in OTP capability is a huge timesaver. I am prepared to live with Multi-Single-Factor authentication.
Galgenfrist für Third-Party-Anbieter: "AutoAusfüllen-Daten...stehen auf anderen Geräten zum Zugriff bereit, auf denen Ihr Geschäftskonto NICHT hinzugefügt wurde". Ich kann z.B. das Feature daher auch nicht aktivieren, da alle meine Geräte Azure AD registriert sind und natürlich mit einem Geschäftskonto verbunden sind. So bleibt es jenseits von Windows doch weiter beim iCloud-Schlüsselbund.

Ich habe mir im Edge ein Profil mit meinen "privaten" Microsoft-Konto angelegt. Das verwende ich auch im Authenticator für die Passwörter. Das klappt hervorragend auf meinen Firmennotebook.
Wobei mir hier dann schon fast mehrere Konten in der Authenticator-App fehlen, da ich ja durchaus auch geschäftliche Zugänge hab deren Passwörter ich regelmässig nachschlagen muss.
Man muss dann halt nur daran danken welchen Edge (man kann ja jedes Profil in der Taskleiste anheften) man für welche Webseite nutzt. Denke aber das ist etwas an das man sich gewöhnen muss.
Passwort Manager haben m.M.n. weiterhin eine Daseinsberechtigung, weil Authenticator eben nur Mobile Devices abdeckt. Auf einem PC (Laptop, Stationär etc). ist der Authenticator nicht verfügbar.

Die Passwörter werden über das Microsoft-Konto (outlook.com, hotmail.com, live.com, etc.) synchronisiert und sind somit auch auf dem Desktop mit Microsoft Edge und der neuen Google-Chrome-Erweiterung verfügbar. Die Autofill-Nutzung wird in der Authenticator-App auf iOS (iOS 12.0 und höher) und Android (Android 6.0 und höher) ausgerollt.
Ich vergass zu erwähnen: Mein Zitat stammt aus den Authenticator unter iOS - hier kann ich die Option „AutoAusfüllen“ nicht aktivieren. Es braucht daher scheinbar Authenticator auf einem privaten Gerät mit (ausschliesslich?) Microsoft Accounts.
