I'm in. What now?

In addition to the pretty useless Lotusphere Live site, that disappears just weeks after the event, Lotusphere attendants get access to LotusLive this year.

I had an account last year that was terminated without notice when the very short trial period ran out. Actually I was still in the directory but could not login. It was a true "enterprise" experience where an admin locks you out after you have been terminated. Some of that mindset shows when you register:

Well, I managed to create a password that passes those requirements and then I wrote it down. Now I am in. I can start sharing. A full 25 Megabytes of files. That should be good for ten photos.

I know this is going to piss off some people, but have you checked all the other offerings out there that let me share stuff? Been on Google Sites, or Google Documents, or Picasa? Facebook anyone?

My experience was a blank white screen when I wanted to log in after registration (Mac and Windows firefox and Windows IE).
I think it was a geek test. I had to use Firebug to remove that white HTML DOM element from the page. Then I could log in without problems. :-)

Sometimes it's just important to show up, not be the best?

Craig Wiseman, 2010-01-12

But, but, but, you're not just Live, you're LotusLive! Makes you feel all tingly doesn't it?

Ben Langhinrichs, 2010-01-12

@Vowe:

I think that the idea here is more of an opportunity to check out LotusLive (for those attendees who *didn't* get in on the original trial). It's a giveaway trial for those attending.

I doubt it's IBM's intention to have you post ALL of the great information about Lotusphere there, as it makes the experience a private/non-*televised* event. Sharing your experiences and the things that you've learned via Twitter, Facebook, Picasa, et al helps spread the word, and expand our little "yellow bubble".

Chris Toohey, 2010-01-12

Yup, you only get that for about 30 days aftere 'sphere. They really should look at revising that - I just recently lost access to the content on the Sharepoint 2008 conference site. I'll have access to the 2009 site until this Fall.

Greg Walrath, 2010-01-12

Chris, you are probably right. So what should I do with this? I have no idea.

Volker Weber, 2010-01-12

Your are mostly talking about consumer services but this is Corporate Web 2.0 with typical administrative restrictions in place. It just shows the power of the platform.
The blank white screen is a problem I have also seen on many Connections sites. In IBM speak this would probably mean that my browser of choice is not supported.
But the UI looks quite nice compared to IBM's usual "We can put 500 links on one page and whitespace is for chickens".

Henning Heinz, 2010-01-12

The power of the platform? You mean that it can host 25 MB of files? Wooah. That's powerful. As Ben said, it makes you feel all tingly.

The elephant in the room is that all "enterprise users" are also "consumers". They can compare.

Volker Weber, 2010-01-12

@Greg, actually MS provided full SPC 2008 material access to 2009 SPC attendees until October 2010....Or if you didn't attend SPC09 you can buy access to both years of conference content for $399 via the link here: http://www.mssharepointconference.com/pages/news.aspx#30

Just sayin' :)

Brian Benz, 2010-01-12

@Brian hear hear.

Lotus should know that maiking available all the Lotusphere goodies would greatly add us pained folks who cannot go to the Walhalla that is Lotusphere. Plus would gratly benefit those lucky warriors who do go, and find that they simply cannot attend all the sessions that interest them because of overlap.

Please Lotus, share the knowledge contained within Lotusphere and thus expand the impact of it.

sorry for the spelling errors

Lars Berntrop-Bos, 2010-01-12

With power of the platform I mean the usual armada of tools and settings that give System Administrators full control over their users.

Henning Heinz, 2010-01-12

I don't know why IBM can't hire in specialists from the "outside" to consult with the developers to organise this. I know there are more than 300,000 people in IBM, but they still don't seem to know how to make it straight forward.

I used to be underwhelmed by these sort of experiences after having my expectations raised recently with other things.. but now I realise it's just par-for-the-course..... !sigh!
