Aktuell für 150 € lieferbar. Das ist ein ganz heißer Tipp für Leute, die viel Text schreiben, etwa als Mail oder WhatsApp und auch gerne telefonieren. Ordentliche Kamera, knackscharfes AMOLED Display, aber nur 3.1" groß. BBM an Bord, mit exzellentem Audio- und Video-Call. Ab 10.3 (Januar, oder Leak heute) dazu auch mit gutem Android Support und Amazon App Store. Dazu sehr robust, wertig und sauschnell. HDMI-out, Miracast, NFC, 2 GB RAM, Wechselakku, microSD-Speicher, LTE, usw usf. Und natürlich kein Metallplastik. Und ja, das Gerät funktioniert ohne Wenn und Aber auch ohne Enterprise-Theater an Exchange oder Gmail. Nur die abgebildete Trennung von privat und geschäftlich benötigt BES als Management-Plattform.
Für 150 € gibt es definitiv nichts besseres.

Welcome to the 1%

Over the last six months I have transformed from a couch potato to a dog walker. Three hours a day. Everyday.
This all started with an article by fellow journalist Dr. Michael Spehr of Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. He used a Jawbone UP for a full year, clocked 3.5 million steps and concluded that nothing had changed. He was happy to get rid of his UP band, which felt like a handcuff after a year. I was happy to take it off him and started my own test.
Now that I have also clocked 3.5 million steps I am officially retiring the UP band. By now I am on a different strategy. Instead of clocking ever more steps on a single account, I walk 100 km a week. And I can reset each Monday morning. It does not really matter what happened last week. I have to do another 100 km. I have met that goal four weeks in a row, come rain, come sunshine. Last week was difficult since I was traveling three days, but I made it nevertheless. This week is going to be easy. I am only 12 km short of my goal.
The changes for me have been profound. I am much stronger, my weight is down, I sleep an hour more. Walking has been great for me, and I would not have done it without the dog. Thank you for walking me. And thank you, Michael, for inspiring me.
Olloclip 4-in-1 photo lens for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus

When I upgraded to the iPhone 6 Plus I lost the ability to use my Olloclip lenses. And I have used them a lot. Here are shots with the 10x Macro lens. The good news is, as of today I have a 4-in-1 Olloclip lens for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
Let me explain how this thing works. It clips over the top of the iPhone and is reversible. You either have the wide angle lens or the fisheye over the main camera. When you remove those lenses fron the clip, you get a 10x macoo lens on one side and a 15x macro on the other side. A very clever design. But there is more.
The other lens sits on top of the front camera. This means you can now shoot wide angle or fisheye selfies with the Olloclip lens. How about that? This is the new thing. How many people can you squeeze into a selfie? The Olloclip gives you a leg up in that competition.
If you have an iPhone 6, you can just clip the Olloclip lens on and it works. If you have a 6 Plus, then you need to exchange an insert inside the clip and you have to move the Olloclip lens around when switching between the front and the main camera. Only on the iPhone 6 will both lenses cover both cameras at the same time.
This is an uncropped square iPhone 6 photo, the next one is shot with the Olloclip wide angle lens attached. As you can see, wider angle, and we can squeeze a dog in.

What is the big bright blue plastic in the first photo? The new 4-in-1 lens comes with three attachments for keychains, lanyards, or other loops which let you wear the lens around your neck. I prefer the old school microfiber bag that is also included. The only downside I found was that the clip seems to cover the ambient light sensor. I had to switch off auto-brightness when using it, otherwise the viewfinder was too dark. The clip also obstructs the flash, but I was aware of that.

Microsoft, this is going to hurt a little. Twelve weeks ago I wrote about your Lumia 830, 735, 730, Lumia Denim, Lumia Camera, Moments et al. And frankly, you fooled me. You told me that the waiting time would be over. The Lumia Camera would launch instantly, and you would never lose a moment again. But I did not read the fine print. An "update to Lumia Camera" would deliver this on devices running Lumia Denim. You delivered Lumia Denim on new devices. I have one of them. But you did not deliver the much needed Lumia Camera update. Your app store still only has a "Lumia Camera Classic". The old and slow one.
And Lumia Denim? It will "start rolling out" this year. When will it have rolled out? Right. Next year.

Ein Freund hat sich nach reiflicher Überlegung eine PLAYBAR gekauft, weil sein Fernsehton nicht so überzeugend war. Apropos kaufen: Sonos kauft man bei ueberall-musik.de. Nach der Registrierung auf vowe verweisen. Das hilft mir nicht. Aber Euch.

Samsung Considering Shake-Up in Management :: WSJ

Samsung produced about 20% more devices than it did of the Galaxy S5’s predecessor, basing the numbers on a survey of its carrier partners around the world, who were asked to predict demand but who weren’t on the hook for any unsold devices, according to the person. That led to merchandise piling up in warehouses, forcing Samsung to increase marketing expenditures to unload the devices.
In all, Samsung sold about 40% fewer Galaxy S5 smartphones than expected, with about 12 million units sold to consumers in the first three months since April compared with about 16 million units for the preceding flagship phone, the Galaxy S4, according to people familiar with the matter.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Samsung is considering a new manager. I would suggest that Samsung needs to build more desirable devices. And that does not mean more features. Since I have upgraded a Nexus device to Lollipop, the Galaxy Note 4 looks completely outdated, although it's a brand new device.
Congratulations

Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton for winning the F1 world championship. I met him once last year, and I found him to be very likable. Congratulations to BlackBerry as well for finding a good sponsorship. Mercedes AMG Petronas is an excellent team and it has provided the best power train as well as the best car. It clearly dominated the series.
The partnership goes beyond a financial transaction. I visited the team in Brackley a few weeks ago and interviewed their IT director. The team is a heavy user of both BlackBerry devices as well as BBM video which lets race engineers connect back to the mothership.
The Executive Director Toto Wolff is a BlackBerry addict who carries both a personal and a business device. I asked how that is necessary, if the BlackBerry allows you separate work from personal use. It turns out he still prefers the 9790 as a personal BlackBerry. Toto said he was actually carrying three: his private 9790 and a Q10 transitioning to a Passport. He was hoping to replace his Macbook with the Passport.
Futura Steps

Max Bäumle is working on a watch face that displays the current step count on a Pebble Smartwatch. Step tracking is done on the iPhone and the app fetches the step count from the phone. The first prototype did this every 15 minutes, which isn't often enough when you are walking. I am doing about 100 steps a minute, if you run, you will do a lot more. So I proposed to check every minute as long as you clock 80 steps per minute, and then fall back to every 15 minutes until you clock another 80 steps. This may need a few adjustments so it continues checking if you just wait at a traffic light or pick up after your dog.
Porsche Design P'9982 and P'9983

BlackBerry currently makes two devices for Porsche Design, who designed them and sell them through their stores. I like BlackBerry 10 devices and I have no problem with rich people spending way more money than normal people. The P`09982 is an all touch device with a really nice leather back. The P'9983 is a keyboard&touch device. Both are built to the highest standard and ooze quality.
There is only one problem: the P'9982 (1250 €) is a Z10 and the P'9983 (1650 €) is a Q10.
A Z30 beats a Z10 in every which way. The Q10 isn't even in the same league as a Passport. The only technical change is 64 GB instead of 16 GB storage. And all of them can be expanded via microSD storage.
If you want to spend lots of money on relatively small BlackBerry devices with two year old technology, you can buy either one. If you want a really great BlackBerry, then by all means get a Passport. It runs rings around both of them. And you look much smarter.

Todo-Listen, Aktivitäten als leichtgewichtiges Projektmanagement, Chat für den schnellen Austausch, Communities, Messageboards, Foren, Wikis, Blogs. All diese Tools haben E-Mail ergänzt, aber niemals abgelöst. Nun will IBM das Problem an der Quelle lösen. Die Schlüsseltechnik dafür heißt Analytics. Flankiert wird sie von sozialen Komponenten und nicht zuletzt einem frischen Design.

Vorher war ich noch bei Felix, der mir nach dem Guten Tag eine PPT-Präsi seines Produktes XCC servierte. (Ja, hier designt der Chef noch selbst das Logo.) Danach Stippvisite in Düsseldorf beim Ingenieurbüro Vössing wegen Connections und den Webcast von IBM Verse geschaut. Zurück nach Köln mit Felix, Hotel bezogen und danach s.o. :-)
Morgen geht es dann los mit zwei Heise Events. Besuch bei Microsoft ist auch schon eingeplant. Noch jemand ohne Fahrschein?
Rocking the Pebble

I have seen a couple of smart watches this week, including the Moto 360. I am still not sure I would want a watch that needs to be charged every single day. The Pebble on the other hand with its very low power display gets a recharge every weekend. I use it as a watch and I get notifications from the iPhone. It lets me quickly check whether I have an important mail or just a retweet or a like.
Technically this isn't even my Pebble. It belongs to Max Bäumle and I am using his Smartwatch Pro to check calendar appointments and the current step count from Health Mate. Go ahead and buy his software. You are paying for "my" watch. ;-)
330 km

100 km a week is my new pace. This week I spent five hours on a train. Twice. Spot the two days. Withings Health Mate without an additional tracker works very well with the iPhone 6+. I cannot stand Jawbone UP's "Smart Coach" that was introduced with the last update. It's the new Clippy.
I like the weekly goal. If you don't make it, there is always a new week. And if you do, you can't rest on you laurels. You always start with zero steps into the next week.

Microsoft Lumia 535

It's a bit difficult for me to see Microsoft dropping the Nokia brand. It was bound to happen, but it's sad anyway. On the other hand, this particular Lumia phone is going to be very important for the company.
The Lumia 535 has not one but two 5 megapixel cameras. One in the back, supported by a LED flash, one in the front, with a wide angle lens for shooting group selfies. The main camera is not going to be an outstanding camera but it will get the job done even in the dark. And the front camera is exactly the same as on the more expensive 730/735 Lumias. Both cameras can shoot video at 480p, which is well below HD but good enough for Facebook, Instagram or Vine.
Windows Phone runs just fine on a quad core Snapdragon 200, and the Lumia 535 has 1 GB of RAM unlike the other entry level devices, who only sport half a gigabyte. 8 GB of storage is not nearly enough, but you can add up to 128 GB on a microSD. The 535 has an ambient light sensor, which was strangely missing from the 630.
The make or break question of me revolves around the screen. The 520 screen was bad, the 530 was really bad. That is why I always considered the 630 as the serious entry level device. The 535 has 960x540 5" display behind Gorilla Glas 3. This sounds OK, but I will have to see it in the flesh.
The Lumia 535 will become available later this month for 119 €. It does not have LTE, but it will come as either dual or single SIM 3G.
Deregister and Turn Off iMessage

You may need to turn off iMessage if you are now using a non-Apple phone and can't get SMS or text messages someone sends you from an iPhone.
Whenever I was not using an iPhone and an iPhone user sent me an "SMS", it got lost. Until I turned off iMessage on iPhone. There was no way to do that without an iPhone. Now there is.
Lenovo Yoga Tab 2 Pro re-imaged

The Yoga Tab was originally partitioned as a 16 GB device and I could not access the remaining 16 GB of storage. It appeared as if the O/S was using more than 20 GB of space. With the help of a very nice Lenovo employee I was able to re-image the storage with the proper partitioning scheme. Now the O/S is at 6.5 GB which is to be expected and I have lots of free data storage. Media files are on a 64 GB microSD.

starting today, people can create and edit Office content on iPhones, iPads, and soon, Android tablets using Office apps without an Office 365 subscription.
It boils down to "free Office for personal use". That's a biggie.
Our vision of Office everywhere wouldn’t be complete without Windows, so I’m pleased to confirm that new, touch-optimized Office apps for Windows 10 are in the works and we’ll have more to share soon.
And come Windows 10, Microsoft will finally have a touch-friendly Office on Windows Tablets.

Gestern gab es ein großes UPdate und nun ist bei mir der Bart ab. Die Softwäre säuft den iPhone-Akku leer und gebiert sich als "Intelligent Coach". Das Elegante am UP24 war, dass es einfach so mitläuft. Nun versucht es, mein Leben zu übernehmen. Schluss, Ende, Aus. Das geht mir zu sehr auf den Senkel.
Auf dem iPhone läuft jetzt nur noch Withings Health Mate. Ohne Bändchen am Arm.
Microsoft CEO Announces He Can Be Mostly Gay by Q2 2015

REDMOND, WA - Continuing its commitment to be about 75% as good as Apple, Microsoft has announced that their CEO, Satya Nadella, will be more or less gay by the second quarter of 2015. The move comes after a universally-lauded announcement by Apple CEO Tim Cook, who is completely gay and proud.
In other news, Samsung is said to be working on a larger and cheaper gay.

from today Nokia Camera will be renamed to Lumia Camera as well. This is purely a name change with no new feature updates. The recently announced Lumia Camera update with Moment Capture and Rich Capture will be made available for the Lumia 830, Lumia 930 and Lumia 1520 and Lumia Icon with the Lumia Denim Update, which starts rolling out later this year.
Microsoft has confused me. My 930 has way too many camera apps. Windows Phone Camera, Nokia Camera, Lumia Camera Classic (!). None of them is the Lumia Camera announced two months ago. That would require Denim. The 830 shipped with Denim, but it does not have this camera either.
Take your time, Microsoft. There is no rush. "Starts rolling out later this year". Just rename things while we wait. Or not wait. [Strokes iPhone 6+]

Once you’ve added your Dropbox account to Word, Excel or PowerPoint, you can navigate folders and files on Dropbox for viewing and editing in the native Office apps. And accessing Word, PowerPoint and Excel from your Dropbox app is just as easy. Navigate to the file you want, and the Dropbox app will open the Office app you need.

Das funktioniert dann wie bei der Vorratsdatenspeicherung bei Internetzugängen, die ja auch nur für die Terrorismusbekämpfung und die Ermittlung von Kinderschändern, aber niemals zur Rettung der Abmahnindustrie eingesetzt wird.

Half a year and two and a half million steps later, I am keeping up with my two hour minimum walk schedule. September and October look weaker than they were, due to the slow service process at Jawbone. I was missing my band for 19 days. Since I have had my iPhone 6 Plus I have also started tracking with Withings Healthmate (screenshot on the right), which works very well without a separate tracking device. I am now at 18k steps a day, give or take a few.
Walking (a lot) more has changed me to the better, but also going to bed earlier (11pm instead of 1am). Not every single day, but most often. And if you would have told me half a year ago I would be doing more than a hundred kilometers a week, I would have questioned your sanity. ;-)

As it turns out, Windows Phone is perfect for people who want to get all their apps for free. Everything that's any good is also free. Like Rudy Huyn's great apps. Why are they free? Because he can't really make any money with them anyway. See above. And that's the most prolific developer on the platform.
