Walking 100 km in a week #dontbreakthechain

I needed to go from cycling back to walking. I just did not feel strong enough in my legs. So I set out to do 100.000 steps for three weeks in June, and then 100 km in the final week. I figured I would need a few weeks to build up muscle that I could use in the final week. This worked out OK. Yesterday I was feeling sick all day so I could only put in my steps in the evening.

14.300 steps a day takes you over 100.000 steps a week, but you need 18.000 a day to get past 100 km. I could have raised my daily move goal from 600 to 1000 but I did not want to put on too much pressure.

I think I should be able to walk 4060 meters to complete the 100 km tomorrow before breakfast. :-)

While I completed all rings every day of the month, I "only" earned the June challenge of completing them 29 times, but have yet to receive the full month. I am also missing a few 200% awards, including yesterday where I did 1200 instead of 600. And I still have that weird hole over three days in May. Good news though. Apple fixed the tally for my weeks with all rings completed. It no longer reads more weeks than Apple Watch has been on the market. It's getting better!

BTW: Did you catch the off-by-one error in the second screen shot. The week ends on 1. Jul. 2018 not 2. Jul. 2018.

Nokia 7 plus :: A couple of weeks in

Executive summary: I really like this phone.

Let's not beat around the bush: I use an iPhone X, and there is no other phone that could replace it, short of an even better iPhone. If anybody asks me, I would always recommend to get an iPhone, especially if you have the funds to afford one. That rules out a couple of high end Android "flagship" phones.

But what if you want to spend considerably less and still get a really great smartphone. In that case, seriously consider this phone. I have used it for a couple of weeks as backup and it has survived against strong competition in the Android space. I never bothered to put it into a protective sleeve, even though there is a protective clear TPU case in the box. It's just not slippery and I have not dropped it once. I don't care much for zero bezels, curved screens or other 2018 items on the checklist.

Yes, the main camera could use some software improvements, which you can witness if you try the Google camera instead of the Nokia one. But even with the Nokia camera I shot some great photos. And the selfie camera is outstanding, if that is your thing.

Techaltar is a bit undecided. On one hand, he really likes his Nokia 7 plus, but then he says he wants a better camera and maybe smaller bezels.

Porsche und Porsche Design

Partnerschaft zwischen dem deutschen Autohersteller Porsche und dem chinesischen Telecomkonzern Huawei

Das ist ein (beabsichtigtes) Missverständnis. Um das zu verstehen, muss man mal kurz in den Stammbaum des Porsche-Clans gucken. Ferdinand Porsche ist der Ingenieur, der für Hitler den KdF-Wagen, später Volkswagen Käfer, entwickelte. Ferdinand hatte zwei Kinder: Louise und Ferry. Louise heirate Anton Piëch. Ferdinand Piëch ist ein Kind von Anton und Louise. Ferry gründete die Sportwagenmarke Porsche. Sein Sohn Ferdinand Alexander "Butzi" Porsche entwarf den 911, gründete aber sein eigenes Unternehmen "Porsche Design Studio", als er beim Sportwagenhersteller keine Führungsposition mehr einnehmen durfte.

1972 waren alle Mitglieder der Porsche-Familie von wichtigen Posten beim Autohersteller Porsche ausgeschlossen worden.

Bereits 1974 zog F.A. Porsche mit seinem Unternehmen nach Zell am See in Österreich, dem Stammsitz der Familie. Erst 2003 verkaufte er Anteile von Porsche Design an eine Tochtergesellschaft der Porsche AG. 2017 übernahm die Porsche AG dann die restlichen Anteile, so dass Porsche Design wirtschaftlich zur Porsche AG gehört.

Dennoch ist Porsche Design kein Autohersteller. Vielmehr werden Lifestyle-Produkte entworfen und entwickelt, die von anderen Firmen als Lizenzvergabe hergestellt und unter dem eigenen Markennamen verkauft werden. Siehe Huawei.

Eine Woche mit dem BlackBerry KEY2

Wenn ich das BlackBerry KEY2 kurz beschreiben müsste, würde ich sagen: "Kleines Android-Handy mit Tastatur unten dran". BlackBerry Mobile sagt: "An Icon Reborn". Das Icon soll der BlackBerry Bold 9900 sein, eine Maschine aus einer anderen Zeit. Eine Zeit, in der Handys kompliziert waren, schlechte Tastaturen hatten und nichts konnten. Und in der das iPhone gerade anfing, alles aufzumischen. Der Bold war optimiert auf geringen Datenverbrauch und Email.

Diese Zeit kommt nicht mehr zurück. Smartphones können alles, Tastaturen sind super, und Email ist auch nicht mehr das, wonach der Handybesitzer giert. Was bleibt, ist die Tastatur. Manche schwören auf diesew Mäuseklavier und ich beherrsche es "im Schlaf". Allerdings bin ich mittlerweile auf einer iPhone-Tastatur schneller. BlackBerry redet auch nicht von Geschwindigkeit sondern Präzision.

Android Oreo 8.1 ist an Bord, relativ naturbelassen und dazu eine Tonne eigener BlackBerry-Software, die ich nicht als Last empfinde. Darunter sehr clevere Sachen wie der Privacy Shade, der den Bildschirm bis auf einen kleinen verschiebbaren Schlitz verdunkelt, fals der Sitznachbar einen langen Hals macht. Darin enthalten der Redactor, mit dem man den Bildschirminhalt mit schwarzen Balken zensieren kann, bevor man einen Screenshot macht. Ein Password Keeper passt auf Passwörter auf, ein Locker schließt Privates hinter Passwort oder Fingerabdruck weg. Die Kamera hat zwei Auslöser: den normalen und die Leertaste für private Bilder. So werden sie sortiert, bevor die Cloud sie abgreift. Dazu gibt es DTEK, eine Software, die aufpasst, dass die Sicherheitseinstellungen stimmen und die Alarm schlägt, wenn Apps zu viel herumfummeln. Das finde ich alles sehr charmant. Was mir persönlich weniger nützt, ist der Hub, der das ganze digitale Leben in einem Stream vereint. Email, Slack, Social Networks, alles bunt gemischt. Kann man nutzen, muss man aber nicht. Und BBM, tja.

Die Hardware kann was. Schlank, eckig und griffig, solide. Kleiner 4.5" Bildschirm in 3:2 Format, vorne eine 8 MPixel-Kamera, hinten zwei mit 12 MPixel, wegen Zoom und Portraitmodus. Bei viel Licht ist die Kamera toll, der Bildschirm weniger. Bei wenig Licht ist es umgekehrt. USB-C, Mono-Lautsprecher, Mono-SIM, eine Kopfhörer-Buchse!

KEY2 ist wie zwei KEYone: Viel schneller, doppelt so viel RAM (6 statt 3 GB), doppelt so viel Speicher (64 statt 32 GB). Die selbe 3500 mAh-Batterie. Mit 4.5" Bildschirm und SD660 Chipset hat sie leichtes Spiel. Zwei Tage sind drin, ein Tag immer. Mit Quickcharge 3.0 ist sie ruckzuck voll.

Eigentlich alles super. Wenn da nicht der Preis wäre. 650 Euro soll das schöne Stück kosten. KEYone und Motion sind mittlerweile beide unter 400 Euro angekommen. Da gehört der Preis auch hin. Wer 650 Euro in der Hand hat, der hat viele Alternativen, die mehr drauf haben. Pixel 2, Galaxy S9, Huawei P20 Pro, OnePlus 6. Für viel weniger Geld gibt es Motorola Z3 Play mit dickem Akku huckepack oder Nokia 7 plus.

BlackBerry Mobile hält das "sicherste Android" dagegen. Wenn es darum geht, kauft man gleich ein iPhone 8. Das kostet in etwa das Gleiche, wird "ewig" mit Softwareupdates versorgt und kann rundum mehr. Und genau das machen zum Leidwesen von BlackBerry Mobile auch viele Unternehmen.

Warum?

Ich kratze mir so ein bisschen am Kopf.

1. Google Pay geht mit Boon-Mastercard (Prepaid, virtuelle Karte), Comdirect-Visa, Commerzbank-Mastercard, Commerzbank-Visa und N26-Mastercard. Warum nicht mit denen von Sparkassen und Volksbanken ausgegebenen Kreditkarten? Oder denen der Deutschen Bank. Wollen die wirklich abwarten, ob Heerscharen von Kunden woanders ein Konto aufmachen?
2. N26 kann in vielen Ländern Apple Pay. Sie könnten auch hier. Was verpennt Apple da?

Google Pay startet in Deutschland

KEY2 :: What makes a proper BlackBerry?

What makes a BlackBerry a BlackBerry? I think the most defining property is the keyboard. The second defining property is software and security. But although there are three generations of software on these nine phones, they are all proper BlackBerrys. Let's zoom out for a moment:

Yes, these are a lot of phones. And it's not even the complete collection. The first one on the left is the legendary BlackBerry Bold. It defined the category of the executive messaging phone. The last one on the right is the latest KEY2, and I will look at it in a couple of posts.

First row, third phone is the Bold 9900. People loved this thing, even when iPhones had taken over. BlackBerry made some attempts with touch devices, but none of them succeeded. They were buggy and late. The slider in the third row was an honest effort to deliver a larger screen, but it was top heavy and I found it inferior to the Bold 9900. So did everybody else. Why did people love love love the Bold 9900?

It was the keyboard.It's hard to see but the keys are ever so slightly sculpted and you could write on this thing without looking. To this day I know how to write an @-sign. Hold down the alt key and hit the p. It's pure muscle memory.

Unfortunately, the software was completely outdated. Those weren't really smartphones and it was really hard to write software for different formfactors. So BlackBerry set out to build a new operating system, that was extremely well done, but failed to find customers. For many reasons, one of them being, that they started with a keyboardless Z10 and and only followed up with the keyboard Q10. Those are in the fourth column. The sixth phone in the first row is the Passport, which I still consider one of the best phones ever made.

The seventh one is the Classic, where BlackBerry tried to recreate the Bold 9900, only with BB10, down to the trackpad that was missing on previous BB10 devices. It addressed the muscle memories of people still holding on to their Bold 9900. BB10 failed for many reasons. You had to set up new infrastructure (BES 10) and it had a huge app gap. You just could not get as many apps as on iOS or Android.

For that reason, BlackBerry switched to Android and launched the quite expensive PRIV and chose to build a slider, the least popular form factor for a BlackBerry. Sales of the PRIV were disappointing and BlackBerry started to get out of the handset business. TCL took two of their reference designs and the Android distribution made for the PRIV and manufactured the DTEK50 and DTEK60 for BlackBerry. Since this collaboration worked out OK, BlackBerry had an escape route to get out of the handset business. DTEK50 was moderately successful, despite having no keyboard. DTEK60 was not.

Now TCL set out to make proper BlackBerry phones with a keyboard. Thy licensed the name, set up shop as BlackBerry Mobile and launched the KEYone, to be followed up by the keyboardless Motion. Again the KEYone was more attractive to BlackBerry buyers and TLC started to build a successor..

They KEYone got it almost right, but the design was a bit too flashy, it had medioce hardware (SD625, 3 GB RAM, 32 GB storage) and the keyboard was too small. Enter the KEY2, which doubles both RAM and storage (there is an option to go to 128 GB storage) and upgraded the chipset to SD660. Most importantly however, they improved the keyboard with taller keys that are easier to hit. And while my muscle memory still works perfectly, they also added a new key, pictured here next to the sym key. It's a shortcut key which allows for two sets of 26 speed keys to launch apps or functions. Hold down this key and then either short or long press on one of the 26 letter keys.

And what about the software? KEY2 ships with Android 8.1 on the May security update. That is already one month down, as are the KEYone and the Motion. Those two should get an upgrade to 8.1 soon, either in July or August. I believe that development resources are stretched out already. Only the PRIV has dropped out of support and nobody talks about upgrading DTEK50 and DTEK60 from Android 6. Even though TCL built them, these are not their phones.

It would probably be easier to recommend the KEY2 if it ran on AndroidOne. But that does not seem to be inline with customer demand from enterprise clients. They want the extra layer of security BlackBerry adds as well as their enterprise ready apps.

What makes a BlackBerry a proper BlackBerry? The keyboard. You know when you want one. It's that old muscle memory.

Richard Jefts, HCL

I am just coming back from a long talk with Richard Jefts, Jason Gary, Andrew Manby and Uffe Sorensen. And what a talk it was. I cannot remember any conversation in the IBM collaboration space that was this honest and open. Zero b/s bingo with workplace of the future, cognitive computing, social business and whatnot. These guys know what they are doing, they know their challenges, they have a plan and they are executing on that plan, while trying to be as transparent as they dare.

I am impressed and I look forward to future discussions.

Who is who? Richard Jefts is the General Manager & Vice President Collaborative Workflow Platforms at HCL. He was previously at IBM, Cisco, Colt, Avid, and Oak. Not a career IBMer but an experienced manager who has been hired by HCL to run this business. Jason Gary is the CTO for this business and I see him as a wild duck who is not afraid to break some glass to move forward. Jason has a long developer history within IBM and he knows both the product from the inside as well as newer technologies that would be benefitial to the product. I met Andrew Manby for the first time and he is currently the Offering Manager at IBM for the Notes/Domino family. Last but not least, Uffe Sorensen, originally from Denmark is responsible for Wordwide Sales. Uffe has been with IBM for 48 years and I seem to have known him forever. Uffe reached out to me and set up this meeting, for which I am very thankful.

What's the plan?

• Talk to the customers. Find out what they need. Dont give in to fringe demands. See #Domino2025. Check.
• Figure out what you are good at. Domino apps, doh. Check.
• Start making new major releases to build out the strengths. V10 this year, V11 next year, and so on. TBD.
• Be transparent about what will and will not be in the next and release after that. TBD.
• Don't run on PowerPoint but deliver actual code. TBD.

Pay close attention to what HCL is saying. It's all out there. For the next release, there are some things being integrated into the on-premises version that IBM built for the cloud platform. Make it more robust, make it faster, add new interfaces. Then there is some candy like the iPad client that was actually being kicked around for a while but not made into a product. Then start opening up the platform for new ways to develop apps. That is where all the talk about low code is coming from. This needs to be demonstrated much better.

Domino will run in a docker container, so you can deploy it on premises, in your own private cloud or in a public cloud. Next step: componetize Domino into smaller containers so you can run or replace certain tasks. Open source some of this or use open source that is already out there.

And the final goal is to go back to the future. Remember how Notes used to enable line of business people to write "simple forms and views" apps? And then Domino Designer got weighed down until it was this unusable, slow and heavy p/o/s that all developers love to hate. You need much simpler tools to let business users automate.

This is a high risk business. HCL needs to build new trust in the future of the platform. They need to stop the revenue decline. They need to find new customers. Here is how to see them reach the turning point: people start building new applications. These guys are determined to win. Or die trying. I like that.

So why is this "DNUGcomes2me"? I set up camp today at woog.me. Remember, this is my home turf. It's much nicer than the DNUG venue and a short ten minute walk. I will do this again tomorrow. See me from 15:00 hours. I won't be at DNUG, but some of you will meet up with me. I am very interested in your opinion on this story.

Suggestion: walk up the hill on the red route to Mathildenhöhe. The walkway is on the right side of Darmstadtium. You will cross two small streets. Continue on the left of the big brownstone building. Take a walk around the area when you are at the Russian Chapel. Then walk south from there, down the hill. It's basically a right turn in front of the Russian chapel. As you hit the Jugendherberge, follow the walkway at the Woog lake. This leads you to my basecamp.

If you are in a hurry, take the blue route. But you will miss Mathildenhöhe. Which you should not.

#dnug45 im darmstadtium

Ab morgen gastiert die DNUG für zwei Tage im darmstadtium. Da ich in Darmstadt wohne, aber kein Gast der #dnug45 bin, treffe ich mich heute bereits konspirativ mit Mitarbeitern von IBM und HCL. Morgen wird es sehr sommerlich werden. Wer sich gerne mit mir treffen will, wird Frau Brandlinger und mich an einem kühlen Plätzchen außerhalb der Veranstaltung finden. Elgato Eve Flare :: Erste Eindrücke

Eve Flare ist eine portable LED-Leuchte mit HomeKit-Unterstützung. Sie ist etwa so groß wie ein Basketball. nach IP65 gegen Wasser und Staub geschützt und wird von einem Akku mit Strom versorgt. Auf der Unterseite lässt sich auch ohne HomeKit die Farbe wechseln und das Licht ein- und ausschalten. Mittels eines Drahtbügels lässt sie sich auch wie ein Lampion aufhängen. Mit der Leuchte werden eine (nicht wassergeschützte) Basis und ein Netzteil geliefert. Die Stromverbindung zwischen Basis und Leuchte kommt über zwei Federkontakte in der Basis zustande, die auf zwei ringförmige Kontakte in der Leuchte greifen, unabhängig von der Richtung, in der man die Leucht aufsetzt.

Man kann diese Leuchte also im Innenraum betreiben und dabei gleichzeitig laden und bei Bedarf mit nach draußen nehmen. Dort wird sie problemlos einen Regenschauer überstehen. Bei einem Gewitter sollte man sie allerdings lieber reinholen. Die nur etwa 800 Gramm schwere Kugel wird zu leicht vom Sturm verweht. Dauerhaft kann man sie ohnehin nicht draußen betreiben, weil die Stromversorgung dafür nicht geeinet ist.

Die Eve Flare lässt sich gewohnt einfach in HomeKit integrieren. Man muss lediglich den Code scannen. Die Verbindung zwischen Flare und Apple TV, Homepod oder iPad als Steuerzentrale geschieht über Bluetooth Low Energy. So kann man sie in Routinen und Szenen von Homekit einbinden. Die Reichweite dieser Verbindung schränkt etwas die Nützlichkeit ein, ist aber dem Akkubetrieb angemessen. Bei mir ist das kein Problem, da die Flare direkt über dem Apple TV steht. Man kann sie aber nicht einfach im ganzen Haus verteilen wie etwa die Philips Hue Lampen. Flare taugt mit ihren 90 Lumen außerdem nicht als Beleuchtung sondern erzeugt nur ein schwaches Stimmungslicht.

HomePod kaufen?

Ab heute kann man in Deutschland den Apple HomePod für 349 Euro kaufen. Sollte man das tun?

Was ich gut finde:

• Apple tritt mit einem Qualitätsanspruch an. Statt einen möglichst billigen Smartspeaker anzubieten, hat Apple ordentlich in die Klangqualität investiert. HomePod passt sich an den Raum und den Standort im Raum an. Der Nutzer merkt davon gar nichts, da die Anpassung automatisch erfolgt, nachdem der HomePod bewegt wurde.
• HomePod passt sich perfekt in das Apple Ökosystem ein. Ob Apple Music, iPhone, iPad oder Mac, alles passt zum HomePod.

Was ich schlecht finde:

• HomePod ist ein geschlossenes System. Spotify, Amazon Music? Tough luck.
• One Size Fits All. Es gibt nur einen Speaker. Ob großer Wohnraum oder kleines Bad, das muss passen.
• Wer gerne Stereo hören will, braucht zwei. Und ja, Stereo ist eine Supersache. Schon seit einem halben Jahrhundert.
• Keine TV-Integration. Man kann in Apple TV auswählen, dass der Ton an HomePod gehen soll, aber so gelingt kein Mehrkanalsystem.

Was besser werden kann:

• Siri.
• Kabel in verschiedenen Längen, die man durch kleine Löcher verlegen kann.
• Alles, was ich schlecht finde. :-)

Das sind alles nur Gedanken ohne praktische Erfahrung. Ich habe keine HomePods und die wären hier auch in schwieriger Umgebung. Playbase + Sub + 2 Play:3, Playbar + Sub oder 2 x Play:5 + Sub, dazu ein Zoo einzelner Sonos-Lautsprecher, verbunden mit einem halben Dutzend Musikdiensten und Alexa, dagegen ist schwer anzustinken.

Interessieren würde mich schon, wie sich das einsoriert. Meine Erwartung ist, dass ein HomePod mit einem Sonos ONE gut mithalten kann, aber sich einem Paar davon geschlagen geben muss. Zwei HomePods gegen einen Play:5 sind wohl auch ein fairer Wettbewerb, aber zwei Play:5? Bei Sub oder Surround sind wir auf einem anderen Niveau. Auch preislich. Da ist der HomePod geradezu preiswert.

Neues Ziel: 100k #dontbreakthechain

Ich muss wieder mehr laufen, damit mein Knie nicht wackelig wird. Radfahren zählt nicht. Deshalb habe ich mir ein neues Ziel gesetzt: Erst einmal 100.000 Schritte, dann 100 km. Seit zwei Wochen laufe ich morgens kurz nach sieben los. 14 Tage bisher mit mehr als 10 km am Tag.

No matter where I go on the Internet, I feel like I am trapped in the “feed,” held down by algorithms that are like axes trying to make bespoke shirts out of silk. And no one illustrates it better than Facebook and Twitter, two more services that should know better, but they don’t. Fake news, unintelligent information and radically dumb statements are getting more attention than what matters. The likes, retweets, re-posts are nothing more than steroids for noise. Even when you are sarcastic in your retweets or re-shares, the system has the understanding of a one-year-old monkey baby: it is a vote on popularity.

Sonos, AirPods, Plantronics. Und Podcasts.

Zuhause höre ich Musik über Sonos, am liebsten über Play:5 und Playbar. Aber wenn ich etwas Interessantes unterwegs hören will, brauche ich einen Kopfhörer. Podcasts interessieren mich nicht die Bohne, aber ich habe zwei Ausnahmen. Ich höre Musik auch als Podcast und ich höre Candice & Casey bei ihrer Couples Therapy zu. Ich mag sie einfach und finde es interessant, wenn sie sich freundschaftlich zoffen. Es ist schon witzig, wie gut man völlig fremde Menschen nach einiges Zeit zu kennen meint.

Gestern habe ich also wieder mal die AirPods eingesteckt und unterwegs ein bisschen Candice & Casey gelauscht. Ein normaler Fußmarsch dauert bei mir etwa zwei Stunden oder drei Episonden. Insgesamt vier mal muss ich dabei eine größere Straßen überqueren und in dem Augenblich höre ich mit den Airpods gar nichts mehr. Also habe ich heute morgen das Plantronics 6200 UC genommen und das Hörerlebnis war völlig anders. Kein Lärm, nur das, was ich eigentlich hören wollte. Außerdem kam gerade ein wichtiges Software-Update:

• Improved stability of transmit performance especially in hostile mobile environments – you sound clearer and louder.
• Improved frequency response tuning to optimize media/music quality and performance – music sounds richer for a better listening experience.
• Improved PC audio when also connected to another smart device (smartphone, tablet, smartwatch).

Alles besser? Nicht unbedingt. Wenn man das 6200 mitnimmt, dann kann man es nicht in die Hosentasche stecken. Und wenn ich auch nur leicht schwitze, finde ich das Band im Nacken eher störend. Dafür kann man die Stöpsel einfach rausnehmen und fallen lassen, wenn man mit anderen Menschen spricht. Und es ist wesentlich einfacher, die Lautsrärke anzupassen, weil das Headset Buttons hat. Powertipp: Bei den Airpods macht man das mit der Apple Watch.

Three essentials

I usually have three pieces of technolgy thar I cannot or would not replace with anything else. In number of hours I use them each day they are:

- Apple Watch with LTE
- Microsoft Surface Pro
- Apple iPhone X

And my greatest affection belongs to that watch. I wear it 23 hours each day. Not on the same level, but quite important is Surface Pro. And the iPhone X stands for any dual camera iPhone (7 Plus, 8 Plus or X). You have to have an iPhone for Apple Watch. I could go with a 2016 7 Plus, but not an older watch without LTE. I also keep trying other computers than Surface Pro but always come back.

Die neue Cebit

Es gibt eine eiserne Cebit-Regel: Die Messe ist stets super gelaufen. Irgendeine Zahl ist immer ganz doll. Wenn weniger Besucher kommen, dann waren mehr Fachbesucher dabei. Oder die Fläche war größer, oder die Aussteller waren zufrieden. Da gab es nur ein Problem: die Messe wurde immer langweiliger und es kamen immer weniger Besucher. Von ehemals knapp 500.000 Besuchern blieben nur noch 200.000 übrig.

Es musste also was passieren. Die Messe wurde von März auf Juni verschoben. Sommermärchen statt Schneebit. Hannover ist tatsächlich unfassbar viel schöner in dieser Jahreszeit. Dann sollte die Cebit auch drei Dinge gleichzeitig sein: Konferenz, Messe und Festival. Aus CeBIT wurde CEBIT. Neues Design, frischerer Auftritt, mehr Spaß. Für die Eventbesucher dazu ein deutlich günstigeres Ticket mit 15 statt 100 €.

Das nüchterne Ergebnis: nochmal 40 Prozent weniger Besucher. Da kommt die eiserne Cebit-Regel zum Einsatz: Zwar weniger, aber zufriedenere Besucher. Ich bin diese Jahr zum ersten Mal seit Jahrzehnten weggeblieben. Meine Erwartung war, dass es mehr Reporter als Neuigkeiten gibt. Auch das Festival zog mich nicht. Ich mag nach einem langen Messetag nicht noch mal ein paar Stunden Beine in den Bauch stehen.

Die Leute, die tatsächlich da waren, berichten, dass alles viel schöner war als früher. Deshalb soll es auch 2019 eine neue Cebit geben. Ich bin gespannt, wie groß das Ausstellerinteresse sein wird.

Let's talk about USB-C and Apple

This is the cable you get, when you buy an iPhone. It has a USB Type A plug on one end and a Lightning plug on the other end. You also get a charger with a USB Type A port. If you use a MacBook or a 2016 MacBook Pro, you cannot use this cable to connect the phone to your computer.

This week somebody started a rumor that iPhone was going to go to USB-C for the iPhone. Then everybody started to jump on the bandwagon and twisted this into "Apple is finally dropping Lightning". As if Lightning was a bad thing. Here is what I think will happen instead, if that original rumor is true:

Apple is going to keep Lightning but they might ship a cable (and a charger) with USB-C on the other end. When they do that you can plug the cable right into your MacBook and still connect it to any iPhone you might still have (iPhone 5 and later). There goes the need for a dongle and all your other accessories still work.

USB-C is this great promise that you just need one cable and one charger that will charge all your accessories. And it remains a promise. I have a couple of smartphones with USB-C ports but you cannot mix and match chargers, cables and phones. QC3 is not compatible with FCP. So your Huawei phone cannot quick charge with a Samsung, BlackBerry oder Nokia charger and cable. Everything appears to be right, but it just won't do it. Is it the charger or the cable? Very difficult to find out. Let's face it: USB-C currently is a bag of hurt.

This is the cable that is shipping with most Android smartphones today. USB Type A to USB-C. It's very similar to what Apple has been shipping with iPhone, it only has a USB-C instead of Lightning plug. That is precisely what Apple is not going to switch to. And USB-C on both ends? Why in the world would they drop Lightning and break compatibility with all their MFI accessories? If Apple ever drops Lightning from iPhones, then it will be replaced with nothing.

If Apple ships a USB-C to Lighning cable with futures iPhones, they are not going to support any of these QC3 or FCP hacks. It will be proper USB PD (power delivery).

Echo Show mit Spotify Connect oder Amazon Music

Amazon Echo Show (aktuell 150 statt 220 €) ist nicht nur ein Bluetooth Speaker, sondern kann auch per WLAN per Spotify Connect Musik abspielen. Dazu kann man einfach in der Spotify App den Echo Show als Ziel angeben und die Musik wechselt vom Smartphone auf den Speaker. Während der Wiedergabe zeigt der Bildschirm dann das Cover des aktuellen Tracks an.

In der Alexa App lässt sich Spotify auch als Standardlieferant für Musik auswählen.Wenn dann sagt "Alexa, spiele Comfortably Numb von David Gilmour", dann holt der Echo die Musik von Spotify. Mit dem Zusatz "... im Büro" würde Alexa den Track auf meine Sonos Lautsprecher im Büro schicken. Das muss man allerdings jedesmal sagen und ich wünsche mir, dass man pro Echo ein Standardziel auswählen kann. Wenn Spotify auf dem Sonos abspielt, werden übrigens keine Cover angezeigt, da Echo nur als Initiator auftritt und danach nicht mehr in der Schleife hängt.

Amazon würde natürlich gerne den eigenen Musikdienst andienen, geht aber viel geschickter als Apple vor, die auf ihrem Homepod keine Konkurrenz duldet. Amazon hat zwei Angebote:

• Prime Music hat 2 Millionen Titel und die Bundesliga Live, jeweils ohne Werbung. Das Angebot ist in Amazon Prime enthalten und verursacht keine zusätzlichen Kosten. Hier kann man das 30 Tage testen.
• Amazon Music Unlimited enthält 50 Millionen Titel und kostet 10 Euro im Monat oder 8 Euro für Prime-Mitglieder. Bezahlt man für ein Jahr, dann macht das für Prime-Mitglieder nur 80 Euro. Für 15 Euro im Monat erhält man Music Unlimited für sechs Familienmitglieder. Will man Unlimited lediglich auf einem einzigen Echo Speaker nutzen, sinkt der Preis auf 4 Euro. Auch diesen Dienst kann man kostenlos testen.

Sonos 8.6 finally drops SMBv1. Sort of.

Easily overlooked by some popular blogs which never got past the What's New:

The Sonos app for Windows will now set up a music share using HTTP for local file sharing instead of the now-deprecated SMBv1 protocol. If you’re sharing your music library with Sonos, you will need to re-set up your music share after this update is finished.

And a very welcome change for Playbase users:

The Playbase audio is getting kicked up a notch, with a refined soundstage that feels even wider. We’ve also adjusted the equalizer with smoother bass, clearer TV dialogue, and less pronounced high frequencies.

After updating to Sonos 8.6, make sure you re-run your Trueplay tuning to optimize your Playbase for the room it's in.

It took a dozen runs of the update process until all my players had updated. There is a temporary problem with the update servers.

Computer Kid

Eine Freundin will ihrem Sohn einen Computer zum neunten Geburtstag kaufen. Den hat er sich gewünscht. Er kommt jetzt in die vierte Klasse und ist schon groß. Ob ich was empfehlen kann? Nicht so teuer soll er sein. Erst dachte ich an ein Notebook als Leasing-Rückläufer. Aber nur ganz kurz. Mit einem neuen iPad kann er sofort loslegen. Da ist schon alles drin, was er braucht. Und er konnte es schon bedienen, bevor er in den Kindergarten kam.

Stuff that works :: Nokia 7 plus

Das Nokia 7 plus ist im Augenblick mein liebstes Android-Smartphone. Das Gehäuse fühlt sich gut an, das umlaufende Antennenband sorgt für einen festen Griff und die Technik funktioniert. Ich habe per Developer Mode die Animationen ausgeschaltet und damit ist es super schnell, auch wenn der SD660 eher zur Mittelklasse zählt. Und das liegt vor allem an der Software: Android One, so nackig wie Google es schuf. Keine fette Bloatware, keine draufgestrickte Oberfläche, alles nur einmal statt wie bei vielen anderen Herstellern doppelt und dreifach. Vn allem ist genug da: 4GB RAM, 64 GB Speicher, 6" Display mit 1080 x 2160 Pixeln, 18:9 Format, 3800 mAh Batterie. Man kann entweder eine SD-Karte zur Speichererweiterung oder eine zweite SIM einlegen. Bluetooth 5.0 und NFC sind an Bord, nicht jedoch wireless charging. Der Mono-Lautsprecher ist eher bescheiden, dafür gibt es einen Kopfhöreranschluss.

Das Android ist aktuell: 8.1 mit Security Patch June 2018 und hat monatlich das Update erhalten. Diese Updates installieren im Hintergrund. Man muss lediglich einmal kurz booten, um auf das neue System zu wechseln. Ich nuzte Brave und Mozilla statt Chrome, dazu ein paar ausgewählte Apps. Der Fingerabdruck-Sensor auf der Rückseite ist an der richtigen Stelle und ist fix und zuverlässig. Ich benutze ihn als Einschalter und um das Notification Shade herunterzuziehen.

Das Nokia 7 plus ersetzt nicht meine Kombination aus iPhone X und Apple Watch. Die sind unschlagbar. Aber für aktuell 379 Euro ist das eine dicke Empfehlung.

Herzlichen Glückwunsch, Bahn

Vor einem Jahr hat mir die Bahn über eine Abo-Falle eine Bahncard reingedrückt, die ich nicht haben wollte. Null Kulanz. Darauf hin habe ich beschlossen, dass die Bahn keinen Euro mehr von mir erhält. Das hat funktioniert. Die "Stornierung" ist am Sonntag wirksam geworden und die Bahn hat seit einem Jahr keine Aufträge mehr bekommen.

Echo Show für 150 €

Ich habe geschrieben, ich sage Bescheid, wenn es den Echo Show im Angebot gibt. Jetzt hat Amazon den Preis um 70 Euro reduziert. Das ist keine einmalige Gelegenheit, sondern eine immer wiederkehrende Preisreduktion.

Der Echo Show kann was. Obwohl in den Echo Spot schnuckeliger finde, ist der Show durch seine Stereo-Lautsprecher weit überlegen. Bei mir steht das Ding auf dem Schreibtisch und der 27" iMac schämt sich. Man kann damit normale Videotelefonate führen aber selektiv auch so genannte Drop-Ins erlauben, bei denen man gar nicht annehmen muss. Während ein Warnton erklingt, bleibt das Bild zunächst unscharf und schaltet dann nach einige Sekunden scharf.

Der Echo Show taugt übrigens auch als Bluetooth-Lautsprecher. Das Einzige, was mir fehlt, ist eine Handset-Funktion, mit der man das sensationelle Mikrofon-Array für Handy-Telefonate nutzen könnte. Alles eine Sache der Software und in dem Sinne auch nicht für immer ausgeschlossen.

Kauft man zwei Stück, gibt es übrigens noch mal 20 Euro Nachlass.

BlackBerry KEY2 :: A few thoughts

BlackBerry Mobile has finally unveiled the KEY2, if there was anything left to unveil. Time to give you my thoughts.

• I am glad this phone exists. In a sea of similar slabs aiming for either "flagship" status or bargain basement prices, the KEY2 stands out as a device optimized for messaging.
• You know you want one if you see it. Or you know you don't want it. For many people it's the latter. You trade in screen real estate for a keyboard, and that only makes sense if you do a lot of typing.
• Last year, BlackBerry Mobile had two new devices: KEYone and Motion. I liked the Motion design way better, and this year I am not so sure anymore. KEY2 has the boxy shape that I like so much about the Motion, it has gotten thinner, the keys are larger, which was made possible by the screen moving up in a similar sized body. It's a millimeter thinner and no longer has these weird round radiusses around the edges. Also matte keys instead of glossy ones. It will come in black and silver, both are aluminium frames. My preference is for black.
• The first KEYone batch had the screen come out of the device, because there was not enough adhesive around the screen, and boy did they fix this fast. I expect the KEY2 to not repeat that mistake.
• KEYone shipped with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. KEY2 doubles both. 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. If that isn't enough, there is a 128 GB option in some markets and you can extend storage via SDXC. Dual SIM will only be available in some markets. Germany being one of them.
• It's running on the SD660 chip set. Paired with a 3500 mAh battery and a 4.5" screen, battery life should not be a problem, ever.
• On/off moves to the right, between volume rocker and convenience key. Much easier to hit than the old one on the left side.
• Keyboard gets a new speed key, which lets you invoke shortcuts from anywhere and not only on the home screen. This will make the KEY2 faster than any other phone out there.

All good so far. A number of concerns:

• $650 and 650 € is a lot of money. It's a $100 more expensive than the KEYone launch price. BlackBerry is hedging their bets with another device, codename Luna, that will ship later. Apparently it looks very similar but it is designed with cheaper components to bring the price down. If you are ruling out KEY2 for its price, Luna might be for you.
• The dual camera provices 2x zoom and portrait bokeh, but BlackBerry does not have the expertise to produce outstanding computational photography.
• No wireless charging.
• KEYone sold in the hundreds of thousands, three order of magnitude below the iPhone. Opinion: KEY2 is not changing this equation.
• Development resources for software updates seem to be constrained. BlackBerry wants to update monthly, but often lapses or delays. KEYone and Motion shipped with Android 7 and have yet to be upgraded. It's coming, but it is taking a long time. I guess there will not be speedy updates to Android P. Caveat: KEY2 ships with 8.1 so it is required to support Project Treble, which makes it easier to upgrade. On the other hand, BlackBerry applies lot of under the hood changes to Android.

Sonos and IKEA :: Symfonisk

When we now present the first SYMFONISK prototype to the world, it serves as an illustration of what this collaboration is all about: It’s a great sounding wi-fi speaker (that works with all Sonos products, by the way) designed to be beautifully integrated with the home furnishing overall – enabled by brackets that make it possible to use the speaker as a shelf, or to put it under a METOD kitchen cabinet, and more.

At its Democratic Design Days IKEA presents first ideas of how a joint product with Sonos might look like when it comes to market in the fall of 2019. The important take-away is that IKEA speakers will complement your existing Sonos system and that they will integrate into IKEA furniture. Sounds good to me.

100 km pro Woche #dontbreakthechain

So langsam komme ich wieder in die Puschen. Nachdem ich letztes Jahr sehr viel Zeit damit verbracht habe, meine Gesundheit wiederherzustellen, war ich sehr schwach und gebrechlich. Statt zu laufen war ich auf das Fahrrad umgestiegen. Und ich brauche meine langen Spaziergänge, um nicht zu wackelig zu werden. Eine Zeit lang war ich noch sehr vorsichtig, da ich die Gelenke nicht überbeanspruchen wollte, aber jetzt habe ich vier Tage in Folge das volle Programm durchgezogen und versuche wieder auf meine 100 km die Woche zu kommen, wenigstens aber auf 100.000 Schritte. Ja, das kostet Zeit. Die spare ich mir bei Facebook ein. :-) Ich laufe übrigens morgens zwischen sieben und neun Uhr die ersten 12.000 Schritte. Das bietet sich bei diesem Wetter an.

Ich habe eine zweite Uhr auf watchOS 5, aber das kann ich noch nicht empfehlen. Und es wäre unfair, daran herumzumäkeln. Gebt Apple einfach noch ein paar Monate Zeit und lest so lange die Produktseite. Wer mir mal begegnet und zwei Uhren sieht, nicht wundern. Ich teste, damit Ihr das nicht machen müsst.

Kindle Paperwhite :: Jetzt kaufen

Bei Amazon-Produkten muss man einfach abwarten. Turnusmäßig gibt es die Hardware immer wieder mal deutlich verbilligt. 80 Euro für einen Kindle Paperwhite ist allerdings ein besonderes Schnäppchen.

Der Paperwhite ist ein wesentlich besseres Angebot als der einfache Kindle, weil man das papierartite Display nicht nur in der prallen Sonne, sondern auch nachts mit schummriger Hintergrundbeleuchtung perfekt lesen kann. Dabei hat man nicht das Gefühl, von einer Taschenlampe angeleuchtet zu werden. Eine externe Leselampe schafft das nicht so gut. Mein Oasis ist zwar noch mal besser, aber kostet auch das Dreifache.

Sonos Beam :: The Living Room Speaker

Sonos One is a smart speaker for the kitchen. It's in the 200 € range and competes with everything from the Echo to the Homepod. But none of the other vendors has anything for the living room, where you may want to connect to the TV as well as listen to music. Sonos has Playbar and Playbase, but they are in the 800 € range and way too expensive for many people.

Enter the Sonos Beam, a compact three channel sound bar, for $399 (before tax) or 449 € (incl. tax). It can do everything Sonos One can do, plus it connects to your TV via HDMI. It needs HDMI-ARC (Audio Return Channel) and wants HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) for perfect integration between TV control and Sonos speaker. If you don't have that, you can connect it via a dongle the same way you would connect a Playbar or Playbase.

Sonos Beam has far-field microphones to pick up sound from the room so you can speak with Alexa and other voice assistants in the future. It will play Stereo PCM, Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital 5.1 just like Playbar and Playbase. It is both a stereo speaker for music and a 3.0 soundbar for TV. You can add additional Sonos speakers for 3.1 (SUB) or 5.1 (SUB + two other backchannels).

If you have a Playbar or Playbase, you don't want Beam, unless you are missing voice control. It is super important for Sonos to reach new customers, who will eventually buy more Sonos speakers. I am not one of those people.

Sonos Beam will start shipping six weeks from now. You can also expect AirPlay 2 support on One, Beam, Play:5 and Playbase in July.

Impressed with iOS 12

As a general rule, I don't run beta software, especially not the first version, and never on anything vital for my workflows. That is why the iPhone X is off limits. But I did install iOS 12 on an iPhone 6, without S or Plus. That is the oldest iPhone still in operation at vowe's magic flying circus. Color me impressed. It is indeed more snappy than iOS 11. Usually things get slower when you upgrade your iPhone to a more recent firmware, but not this time.

Somewhat emboldened, I also installed iOS 12 on the iPad Pro 9.7, which happens to be the newest iPad here, the oldest one being a first gen iPad mini, but that is no longer supported, like the iPad 3 that is still going strong with the old folks.

If you compare those screens, you will find I don't use many apps, and I like to keep the icons in the same place. On the iPad, you can also see that the time moved from the middle to the left corner, indicating there might be a notch in a future iPad.

Next up: Installing watchOS 5 on the Series 2, while the Series 3 remains on watchOS 4.

BlackBerry Mobile to announce KEY² in two days

BlackBerry KEYone gets a successor named KEY². The keyboard looks a bit larger and the right shift key is being replaced. Your guess is as good as mine, but this might a launch key. Power key moves to the right side, like on the Motion. I like the no-nonsense design. The internal specs should be similar to the Nokia 7 plus (SD 660). I hope it is going to come with Oreo 8.1 paving the way for an update for KEYone and Motion next month or August at the latest.

If you want a chiclet keyboard this is the only game in town. I expect BlackBerry Mobile to follow up with a cheaper fleet device, most likely with the KEYone specs.

Ein paar Gedanken zur Apple Keynote

Letzte Woche habe ich mich schon darüber amüsiert, dass einige Zeitgenossen versuchten, Apple irgendwelche Hardware-Neuigkeiten für die WWDC anzudichten. Und dann kam es so, wie ich mir das gedacht habe. Tim Cook: "Today is all about software."

Sprechen wir über Software. Ich werde jetzt nicht alles runterrasseln, was Apple vorgestellt hat, sondern nur die Sachen, die ich besonders gut oder besonders langweilig finde.

iOS 12 läuft auf allen Geräte, auf denen iOS 11 läuft. Damit kriegt das iPhone 5S noch ein Jahr dazu. Vorgestellt 2013, aktuelle Software-Updates bis mindestens 2019. Das ist doppelt so lang, wie sich Google das für Android wünscht.

• Top: Apple arbeitet an der Performance. Bereits verkaufte iOS-Geräte werden also nicht langsamer, sondern schneller.
• Überzeugt mich nicht: AR.
• Naja: Nach Animoji nun auch Memoji. Man baut sich einen eigenen Avatar.
• Top: Group Facetime. Endlich nicht mehr nur 1:1 sondern eine echte Videokonferenz, natürlich verbunden mit Groupchat in iMessage. Gilt auch für macOS Mojave.
• Top: Siri Shortcuts. Man kann für eigene Workflows eigene Befehle registrieren. Developer können das auch in ihre Apps einbauen. Spannend wird die Frage, wann das zum Beispiel auch auf Homepod kommt.
• Überfällig: Besseres Handling von Benachrichtigungen. Hier hat iOS viel gegenüber Android aufzuholen.
• Top: Screentime hilft dabei, iOS-Geräte in Maßen zu nutzen. Nicht nur für sich selbst, sondern auch für die Kids. Das neue Taschengeld!

watchOS 5 läuft auf Series 1 und neuer. Die "Series 0", also die erste Apple Watch, wird abgehängt. Finde ich akzeptabel. Der Unterschied zur aktuellem Series 3 ist gewaltig.

• Überfällig: Automatische Workout-Erkennung. Man muss nicht mehr vorher sagen, dass man sich jetzt auf's Rad schwingt. Und man muss den Workout auch nicht von Hand beenden.
• Top: Walkie Talkie. Sprachnachrichten von Apple Watch zu Apple Watch. Einfach per Push-to-talk. Das simuliere ich bisher per iMessage auf iPhone, will es aber eigentlich auf der Uhr.
• Fun stuff: Mehr Workouts, Wettbewerbe, bessere Unterstützung für Läufer.

tvOS läuft auf Apple TV 4K und Apple TV 4th gen. Wenig Neues.

• Top: Neuer Screensaver mit Filmen von der ISS. Die Erde von oben in 4K. Da werde ich stundenlang hingucken.
• Produktpflege: Dolby Atmos.

macOS Mojave läuft auf Macs ab Mitte 2012.

• Hübsch: Dark Mode. Nutze ich auch auf Windows 10.
• Produktpflege: Desktop und Finder werden immer besser und holen Featuers aus den Apps direkt auf den Desktop. Das ist meinem Windows 10 weit überlegen.
• Notwendig: Mehr Tracking-Schutz in Safari.
• Überfällig: Sprachnotizen, Aktien, Home. Was man leicht übersieht: Das sind iOS-Apps. die Apple auf macOS portiert hat. Nächstes Jahr können das auch andere Entwickler. In diesem Bereich muss Apple unglaublich Gas geben, damit die Softwareentwicklung für den Mac nicht verhungert. Gäbe es doch bloß Multitouch und Pen Support.
• Skeptisch: Neuer Mac App Store. Bisher funktioniert der gar nicht, und ich befürchte, das wird sich auch nicht ändern.

Was mir komplett gefehlt hat, sind Infos zu iCloud. Apple gerät meiner Ansicht nach gegenüber Google und Microsoft weiter ins Hintertreffen. Allein wie Google Photos Apple das Wasser abgräbt. Das Bedarf einer Antwort von Apple. 5 GB freien Speicher für Backups von 256 GB iPhones? Hallo Cupertino, da muss was passieren.

Und da wäre dann noch Siri. Ganz klar ein Software-Problem. Shortcuts, also eigene Sprachbefehle, reichen nicht aus.

Wir haben keine Ahnung, was Apple heute Abend in der Keynote zeigen wird, aber wir können aus dem Kaffeesatz der letzten Jahre lesen und ein bisschen über die Probleme philosophieren, die Apple so plagen. Dabei fällt uns aber vor allem Hardware ein, die man viel besser machen könnte. Da Apple in den letzten Jahren keine neuen iPhones vorgestellt hat, jedenfalls nicht Anfang Juni, können wir einfach annehmen, dass sie es dieses Jahr auch nicht tun werden. Außerdem haben wir im Internet gelesen, dass ein Analyst der Ansicht ist, Apple könnte einen billigeren Heimlautsprecher zeigen, weil der bisherige ja so viel teurer sei als die anderen Heimlautsprecher. Ansonsten hat Apple dieses Jahr so dichtgehalten, dass wir vorab keine Fotos neuer Geräte finden konnten, die Apple auch immer wieder mal bei Events zeigen, bei denen es eigentlich um Software-Entwicklung geht. Da wir zwar keine Ahnung haben, was Apple heute Abend so zeigen wird, aber dringend die Klicks brauchen, die eine Meldung über eine Apple Keynote einbringt, schreiben wir halt eine. Und heute Abend können Sie sich dann live in unsere Berichterstattung einschalten, bei der wir ihnen aufschreiben, was Sie auch einfach in Apples kostenlosem Livestream sehen können.

Hier läuft das anders. Ich schaue mir an, was Apple heute Abend zeigt. Dann denke ich zwei Stunden nach. Und dann schreibe ich auf, was ich verstanden habe.

Nokia 7 plus :: Die Kamera

Ich bin kein Pixel-Pusher. Die technischen Details von Fotos interessieren mich nicht, da ich keine Poster drucke und ein 12 MPixel-Bild schon eine höhere Auflösung hat als mein meistbenutzter Screen (2736 x 1824, etwa 5 MPixel). Das sollte man bedenken, wenn man meinen Rat bezüglich Kameras annimmt. :-)

Was micht interessiert ist, ob ich in der Lage bin, in einem Bild das einzufangen, was ich sehe. Und dafür ist die iPhone-Kamera so super. Draufhalten, abdrücken - schon hat mein ein brauchbares Bild. Ich kann mich erinnern, dass ich bei einem Event mit Stativ und Kamera rumgemacht habe, um das perfekte Bild einzufangen und jemand schlenzt mir kurz sein iPhone vor die Nase und tippt mit einem Finger zweimal auf den Bildschirm: einmal auf das Objekt, einmal auf den Auslöser. Fertig. Seit diesem Moment mag ich Kameras, die alles allein können, ohne dass ich nachdenken muss. Ich wähle das Motiv, die Kamera macht den Rest.

Genau diese Qualität erreiche ich mit der Kamera des Nokia 7 plus noch nicht. Das Objektiv ist knackscharf und dennoch mit f/1.7 sehr lichtstark. Nur bei der Belichtung liegt die Software machmal daneben und zwar in Richtung überbelichtet. Das ist ein Fehler, der sich nachträglich schlecht korrigieren lässt. Dunkle Schatten kann man aufhellen, aber überbelichtete Highlights enthalten keine Informationen. In dem Sucherbild oben ist das dramatisiert. Das liegt daran, dass ich das Foto selbst überbelichtet habe. Der (unscharfe) Stift im Hintergrund ist korrekt dargestellt, der Stift im Sucher ist überbelichtet, weil das LCD zu stark leuchtet. Aber man sieht hier sehr gut, wie fatal dieser Fehler sein kann. Er ist jedenfalls leicht mit einem Software-Update zu beheben.

Was man dort aber auch sehen kann, sind die Eingriffsmöglichkeiten des Pro-Modus. Wie bei der alten Lumia-Kamera lassen sich Weißabgleich, Fokus, ISO und Belichtungszeit manuell wählen. Die Helligkeit lässt sich ebenfalls korriegen, allerdings nur um ganze Blenden und nicht wie üblich, um DrittelDarüber hinaus hat die Kamera reichlich Funktionen wie AutoHDR (Default on) oder einen Portrait-Modus.

Sehr überraschend fand ich, wie weitwinklig und von guter Qualität die Kamera auf der Vorderseite ist. So passen ohne Verrenkung zwei Leute ins Bild, auch im Hochformat. Frei Aufnahmen, die mit dem f/2.6 Tele bei ISO 100 und etwa 1/125 aufgenommen wurden. Bei den letzten beiden habe ich den Bokeh-Filter drüber gelegt.
