A few thoughts on the Apple WWDC 23 keynote

Wow, that was a lot to take in. 120 information-packed minutes. I will need some time to get through all of it.

Just a few quick thoughts:

  • Apple Vision Pro is not expensive. It has the exact same sticker price as a Microsoft Hololens 2 and it is far more advanced.
  • The Mac completes its transition to Apple Silicon with the long-awaited Mac Pro. M2, M2 Pro, M2 Max, M2 Ultra, the family is complete.
  • The 15-inch Macbook Air is a nice addition to the line-up.
  • Just a little tidbit: with iOS 17 you will be able to share AirTags with up to five people. That is going to make them so much more useful for shared items. Like a dog collar or a bike.
  • Facetime on Apple TV will be used a LOT here at vowe’s magic flying circus. The iPhone serves as the camera.
  • Apple Watch gets a nice re-work with watchOS 10. I want the Snoopy&Woodstock watch face.
  • AirPods are getting a mute switch and adaptive audio. Both are very welcome additions and adaptive audio will enhance computational audio even more. This is a killer product.

Vision Pro got a strong reaction from my partner. I think she would not want me sitting around with it.

  1. Up until Tim said “one more thing”…. all I could think was that I need to order a MagSafe charger to place underneath our TV. I agree that FaceTime using our TV will be extremely popular.

  2. WAF is very low for Vision Pro (based on my wife’s 1st reaction).

    1. Well, yes. However, if you order food, the wife is never hungry. Only after your food arrives, she wants a bite. Smart husbands do not get one of these without thinking about a second. 🙂

      1. My wife’s a Viking woman and always hungry. And I want to try these ski goggles and operate them with my eyes and my hands in the air. Very cool.

  3. One of the most intriguing (and scary) aspects is that you can do video conferences where your face, your gestures, … is being generated by silicon. It’s a “deep fake” version of you, authorized by yourself, generated by the M2 chip inside the Vision Pro.
The other participants of the video conference THINK they see you when in fact they see a high quality computer generated and animated version of you. Wow. Scary. The future, I suppose.
