Lenovo makes three types of laptops: classic clamshells, 2-in-1s that fold over, and each year a really whacky one. Because they can. It’s not a concept. You will be able to buy one.
The ThinkBook Plus G5 Hybrid is a classic Windows clamshell which has a detachable screen that runs on Android. Plus some software to run Android apps right on the Windows desktop, when it is attached. When you detach the screen, you can connect the base to a separate monitor and now you have both a PC and a tablet.
I have no idea how this feels, but I am going to give it a spin when I get the chance. Lots of other announcements which you have to expect from the world’s largest PC maker, but this one stands out.
Hardwareseitig sicherlich eine interessante Entwicklung. Aber zwei Betriebssysteme auf einem Gerät? Ich kann mir nicht vorstellen, dass das sauber funktioniert und der normale User blickt.
Jedenfalls kommt mal wieder etwas Schwung in den Markt. Danke fürs teilen.
Ein interessanter Vorstoß. Erinnert ein wenig an die diversen Versuche der OEMs in den 2000ern, für den flinken Zugriff auf Kalender & Co ein parallel ein kleines DOS oder Linux vorzuinstallieren, weil Windows XP nicht schnell genug in die Hufe kam.
Es wäre wünschenswert, wenn Apple so etwas einmal aufgreift und perfektioniert – wer sonst hätte dafür das nötige Ökosystem. Und iPadOS hätte dringend mehr Innovation nötig…
Für Apple ist alles in Ordnung. Du kannst ein MacBook, ein iPhone, ein iPad, ein Apple TV, eine Apple Watch …
Als herauskam, dass in dem Chip für die Touch Bar eine abgespeckten iOS-Version lief, hofften ja auch einige, dass das mal mehr, spannende Dinge ermöglichen würde. Aber leider hat Apple keinen Weg gefunden, die Touch Bar gut weiterzuentwickeln.
Auch im Studio Display läuft iOS.
