One of the most useful Windows options is used by too few people. Let’s change that. Press and hold the Windows key and type v. You will get this small window popping up. Now enable the feature.
The next time you press Windows-v you will get a history of content you previously copied to the clipboard.
If you hit any of the pushpins behind a clip, it will stay where it is until you unpin it. Just remember to press Windows-v instead of Ctrl-v.
If Recall suddenly shows up on your PC, this is where you can remove it completely. There is also a Powershell command which does the same:
Disable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName "Recall"
What is Recall?
Recall is a feature of Windows 11 that takes a screenshot of a user’s desktop every few seconds and then uses on-device large language models to allow a user to retrieve items and information that had previously been on their screen. It was announced by Microsoft, alongside the integration of GPT-4o into Copilot and an upgraded user interface in Windows 11.
Recall is only available on Copilot+ PCs with an NPU and 45+ TOPS. In order to use it, you first must opt in. Since I have no use for this feature, I have simply removed it from Windows. YMMV.

Windows Recall wants to memorize everything I see. I don’t want to create this data stash. Also, I would like to keep this feature off my computer, for good.

Letztes Jahr hat Microsoft mit den Copilot+ PCs die neue Funktion Recall für Windows 11 angekündigt. Wenn Recall aktiv ist, dann macht Windows den Verlauf der eigenen PC-Nutzung durchsuchbar, indem es minütlich Screenshots anfertigt und durch Recall indexiert.
Aktuell wird Recall bereits an Copilot+ PCs von Windows Insidern verteilt. Nach den Dev und Beta Channels ist es nun im Release Preview angekommen und steht damit kurz vor Veröffentlichung. In den Insider-Versionen wird es standardmäßig aktiviert und man muss es von Hand in Windows Features ausschalten, wenn man es nicht haben will.
An dieser Stelle auch noch mal die Erinnerung, dass man viele andere “hilfreiche” Features von Windows mit OFGB abschalten kann:
Ebenfalls hilfreich ist Wintoys, mit dem sich wirklich alles deinstallieren lässt, was Microsoft sonst zwangsweise installiert.
Edge braucht ebenfalls ein bisschen Hilfe, indem man sämtliche Schalter in Settings/Privacy/Search ausschaltet.
Die Sidebar rechts und den aufdringlichen Copilot-Button schaltet man ebenfalls in Settings/Copilot aus.
On the top screen you see Windows Editor running on Windows 11 24H2 and a ThinkPad Z13. The bottom screen shows Windows Editor on Windows 11 24H2 and a Yoga Copilot+PC. Both are on Windows 11 Insider and Editor has the exact same version.
On ThinkPad Editor has a Copilot icon which offers some rewrite functions. It sends the text to the Microsoft Azure cloud for processing and deducts from the Copilot credits.
On Yoga Copilot+PC this icon is missing, and you cannot use these rewrite functions in the cloud nor locally, even though Copilot+PCs are advertised as being superior because they can run AI right on the machine.
I love this Yoga notebook with its superior performance and battery life, but Copilot+ it is not. This feels more like Copilot-.
This is simply a huge marketing SNAFU. Shower partners with money so that they build powerful Snapdragon-based PCs, then force a special Copilot-button on them and finally ask Enterprise IT admins to remap this button to launch the Microsoft 365 app.
Ich habe seit einigen Wochen einen Outlook-Fehler, den ich nicht gelöst bekomme. Habe bereits auf verschiedenen Wegen Logfiles an Microsoft geschickt, aber der Fehler persistiert.
Was geht schief? Microsoft Editor markiert beinahe alle Wörter als Typos, weil er annimmt, ich schreibe Englisch. Eigentlich kein Problem: Man öffnet die Editor-Einstellungen über das erste Icon und fügt eine zweite Sprache hinzu. In Outlook funktioniert das aber nicht, in Edge sehr wohl, siehe:
Letzte Woche gab es ein Outlook-Update und auf einmal war der Fehler weg. Ich konnte die korrekten Sprachen einstellen und Outlook markierte nur noch Fehler und nicht mehr beinahe alle Wörter.
Die Freude hielt nicht lang. Gestern gab es ein neues Web Experience Pack und schon ist Editor in Outlook wieder kaputt. Hat jemand gute Vorschläge zur Lösung?
