Mirror your iPhone screen to your Keynote presentation

This week I have learned a new trick with Keynote on macOS. Using the Live Video feature you can mirror the screen of an iPad or iPhone into your presentation slides.

To use the screen mirroring in Keynote, open an existing presentation or create a new one. From the menu bar select Insert-> Live Video. By default your Facetime camera will be added to the slide deck. To change view to your iPhone or iPad screen, make sure that your device is connected to your Mac using a USB C or Lightning cable. The cable that shipped with your device is sufficient for this to work. On the right side of the Keynote window, click on the plus sign next to Live Video Sources. Give the source a name, e.g., iPhone. Select the connected iPhone or iPad from the drop down list. Click on Add. Your iPhone or iPad screen should now be mirrored to your slide deck as shown below. To make the mirrored device look like the real device, you can overlay the screen mirror with the actual device frame. During your next presentation you can now show the live screen of your iPhone or iPad without the need to leave your presentation. I think this approach can be much more convenient than switching to QuickTime or a third-party app to show your device screen during a presentation.

Bonus tip: You can also use this to mirror your Apple Watch screen. On your iPhone navigate to Settings-> Accessibility-> Apple Watch Mirroring and turn on the mirroring feature.

Neue Firmware koppelt zwei Jabra Speak2 75

Jabra hat eine neue Firmware 2.46.0 für die hervorragenden Konferenzlautsprecher Speak2 75 herausgegeben. Die wichtigste Neuerung: Man kann nun zwei dieser Lautsprecher permanent koppeln. Anders als beim Vorgänger Speak 750 bleibt die Koppelung auch nach dem Ausschalten und Wiedereinschalten bestehen.

Zwei Betriebsmodi:

  • Dual Mono: Ein Speak2 75 hat eine Reichweite von ca. 2.5 Metern. Mit zwei Lautsprechern lässt sich die Reichweite mehr als verdoppeln. Beide Lautsprecher spielen bei Konferenzen das gleiche Monosignal.
  • Stereo: Bei der Wiedergabe von Medien schalten die beiden Lautsprecher automatisch in einen Stereo-Modus.

Ausprobieren kann ich das leider nicht für Euch, weil ich nur einen Speak2 75 habe. Was für meine Anwendung auch mehr als ausreichend ist.

ThinkPad, wir fahren nach Lodz

Letzte Woche hatte ich ein merkwürdiges Problem mit einem ThinkPad Z13 Gen 1, der mittlerweile nur die zweite Geige nach dem Yoga 7X spielt: Bei jedem Bootvorgang ertönten zwei laute Töne, verbunden mit einer Fehlermeldung, das BIOS werde aus dem Backup wiederhergestellt. Da die dreijährige Garantie noch bis zum August 2025 läuft, habe ich ein Support-Ticket eröffnet. Das war der zeitliche Ablauf:

  • Dienstag 22:57 – Lenovo: Support Case eröffnet
  • Mittwoch 9:13 – Lenovo ruft an: Abholung am nächsten Tag vereinbart
  • Mittwoch 9:38 – Lenovo liefert Versandunterlagen per Mail
  • Donnerstag 11:31 – Fedex holt das Paket ab
  • Donnerstag 11:57 – Lenovo: Paket ist unterwegs
  • Freitag 9:55 – Fedex: Paket in Zustellung
  • Freitag 12:47 – Fedex: Paket in Lodz zugestellt
  • Freitag 13:19 – Lenovo: Paket in Lodz eingetroffen
  • Montag 6:05 – Fedex: Return Label erstellt
  • Montag 12:25 – Fedex: Paket in Lodz abgeholt
  • Montag 13:28 – Lenovo: Rechner repariert, Motherboard getauscht
  • Dienstag 7:48 – Fedex: Paket in Dietzenbach
  • Dienstag 8:25 – Fedex: In Zustellung (voraussichtlich 8:20-12:20)
  • Dienstag 11:46 – Fedex stellt zu

Das Tracking war absolut vorbildlich. Lenovo hat in Rekordzeit repariert. Mir wurde angeboten, den Rechner ohne Festplatte zu schicken. Fedex hat zuverlässig transportiert und zugestellt.

Lenovo informierte, dass alle eintreffenden Pakete sofort recycled und nicht für den Rücktransport verwendet werden. Da ich den Originalkarton behalten wollte, habe ich eigenes Verpackungsmaterial benutzt.

Das war der zweite Vorfall mit diesem Rechner. Beim ersten hatte ich noch Premium Support, bei dem ein Service-Mitarbeiter ins Haus kam und vor meinen Augen den Akku getauscht hat. Für die beiden Folgejahre hatte ich “nur” den Service im Repaircenter, der aber auch nicht länger dauerte, weil beim Premium-Support ja auch erst das Ersatzteil beschafft und ein Termin vereinbart werden musste.

Wichtige Lektion für alle, die mit einem Rechner Geld verdienen: Du brauchst einen Backup, nicht nur der Daten, sondern auch für den Rechner. Sonst hast du schnell eine Woche Stillstand.

Commercial Vantage ist nützlich

Wie stark ist das Netzteil? Diese Info wünsche ich mir bei jedem Gerät.

Lenovo hat bei Laptops zwei Seiten: Commercial und Consumer. Commercial liefert Commercial Vantage, Consumer liefert Vantage. Commercial Vantage ist eine sehr nützliche Software, die viele interessante Informationen liefert. Vantage dagegen will dir nur was verkaufen. Das eine kann man gebrauchen, das andere will man löschen.

Und dann kommt immer wieder mal eine Maschine von Consumer, die mich absolut überzeugt. Aktuell ist das der Yoga Slim 7x mit Snapdragon. Für mich der perfekte Laptop. Leider nicht mit Commercial Vantage.

Plug in your Beats Studio Pro via USB

Beats Studio Pro is usually connected via Bluetooth and transfers sound encoded with AAC. However, you can go lossless simply by plugging the headset via USB into your computer or mobile. This will recharge the battery and switch the headphones on, which gives you transparency as well as active noise cancelling.

This requires a DAC (Digital Analog Converter) on the headphones side of things. Some headphones have this, others don’t. Give it a try.

Sonos fires CEO and chief product officer

tl;dr: The board replaced the CEO Patrick Spence and the new interim CEO made the chief product officer Maxime Bouvat-Merlin redundant. These two people were ultimately responsible for ignoring inside feedback from the engineers and testers before pushing out a new app before it was ready.

Lesson: if bad news cannot travel to the top, there will be blood.

Opinion: now would be a good time to sell your Sonos speakers. Where will Sonos find new revenue? Maybe a subscription service now that everything is server-based.

Einrichtung der ePA widersprechen

Wer keine zentrale Speicherung seiner Gesundheitsdaten und deren Weitergabe haben will, sollte der automatischen Einrichtung der elektronischen Patientenakte (ePA) spätestens jetzt widersprechen.

Hier ist eine Liste mit Links zu den Krankenkassen, die dies online zulassen. Die Umsetzung bei der TK ist vorbildlich. Anmelden, Checkbox setzen, abschicken, Bestätigung kommt per PDF. Das gilt auch einzeln für alle mitversicherten Personen.

Selbstverständlich kann man sich später, wenn sich die ePA als sicher und nützlich erweist, anders entscheiden.

Microsoft updates Copilot

The nonsense is gone. So is the warning. It still does not run locally on a Copilot+ PC, but it does try to gaslight me:

No network, no Copilot.

But more gaslighting once I have network coverage.

Microsoft, you can delete conversations. You do not want to.
